Home and Car Alarms

One of or very nice neighbors apparently went on vacation, set their home alarm, and it has been going off for the last 33 hours. When it initially went off I went to the home to check for any possible break-in but it was probably just a friendly rat that may have set off the motion detector. After about 6 hours I called the police and they said they could do nothing.

After trying to get to sleep I though about throwing a fire bomb through the window but I have seen how long the fire dept. gets to the scene and could have wiped out the entire colonia. It is now 7 am Sunday morning and all is quite except for the beautiful sound of that alarm.

I probably got about 2 hours sleep last night because the pillow was over my head. I checked on my son this morning and he also has the pillow directly over his head. It doesn't seem to bother the wife. She could sleep through a category 5 hurricane.

Any suggestions? Ear plugs don't work......

Also car alarms are always going off, and when I mean always it's every hour.

Try to find the bell and cut the wire....or take some foam and stuff into bell. You could also attach a cable to the front door and the other end to the tow hitch on your truck and pull the door off and then go in and cut all the wires that go to the alarm control panel.
Good luck!

Years ago an old family friend visiting my parents in Medford Oregon invited me to go along with him on a guided fishing trip on the Rogue River.

Drifting down the river in the guide's driftboat, as we approached one bend in the river the guide told us we were coming up on the Siren Hole.

Around the bend, we glided into a long, deep run. Our guide banged an oar against the boat, setting off an ear-piercing siren on the roof of a riverside cabin.

"That's why we call it the Siren Hole. Some @^#&$*^ sob cabin owner's stupid alarm system...the slightest noise sets it off.

When we got home, my dad asked how the fishing was. "Good, we each got a good steelhead," I said. "But you better fix the alarm on your cabin."

My suggestion? Go over there, find the alarm, and hammer it with an axe or sledge hammer. Kill it. After all, the police won't do anything.

Or ask Gnukid if he knows where to hire a burglar.

I would go stay in a very nice hotel for the duration of the neighbor's vacation, having all meals in the best restaurants, and give him the bill when he comes bask:dudette:

I just took the dog for a walk by the house and no one has thrown eggs or molested the house in any way.

I didn't get too close to see if you can shut off the power from outside but I think if that was possible it would have already been done. I must find out what kind of alarm it is because it works really great and is louder than any I have heard before.

Even though I have lived here for the last 22 years and being a gringo I try my best to show that because of who I am I must present a positive attitude and go way out of my way to set an example. It really comes easy for me but there are times (like now) when I want to just let it all hang out and get really mad but then I will be labeled as the "P-nche gringo" and what good is that going to do anyhow.

My Mexican neighbors are a lot more patient than me and that is true all over Mexico.

Just took a valium! Yea, That's the ticket.

Shut off his power at the meter. Unfortunately, he'll probably have a mess in his fridge when he gets back-- perhaps that'll motivate him to be more considerate next time... :(

That's the ticket for sure, cut off his power which in Mexico is open to street access .... eventually the back-up battery (if there is any) will run down.

They could have left a contact number .....:fire:

Lips, good on you that you're displaying exemplary leadership skills. Alarms, graffiti and valium pushers? ;D Man, you've got some serious hood there. :saint:

At least you checked out your neighbor's place to see if it was OK. Most people's reaction to an alarm concerns only the noise annoyance with no concern about potential crime.

Hope you find some sleep.

I find it interesting that this nice neighbor didn't leave a house key with another neighbor. In my neighborhood anytime someone leaves for a weekend or on vacation the neighbors know it so we can watch their house and one of the neighbors has a key to it.

What a jerk

Wired to ''power'' means nothing if it's wired to a back-up battery as well. And the back-up might be attached to the ''siren''.

Had a back-up siren for a vehicle, it malfunctioned and cutting the wires, at the siren, did no good. It took me close to an hour to remove the siren from the engine compartment (it was hidden too well), and had to smash it to pieces before it would stop.

YOu need to be closer to your neighbors. Someone arming an alarm without giving disarming info to a surrounding neighbor is out of touch.

Your right Lee. My neighbor across the street knows where to call if there is a problem with my house.

The alarm is still going full on. 39 hours!

The home is surrounded by a large fence and I am not going to touch the power. The other neighbors that are next door are besides themselves and also will not go onto the property. Everyone has called the police with no results.

If someone trespasses onto the property there will be problems with the police Im sure of it.

I have stopped complaining---Just venting

lizard lips, while I was kidding about leaving and giving the bill to the neighbor, spending as much time away from home might help your nerves a little. that siren must be nearly unbearable.
I hope you'll post a follow up, that person should do some in depth apologizing to all in earshot!

And why not shut off the power ... all mains are accessable from the street as per power company requirements.

Unless you suspect it to be a cartel house .... is it beautiful with never any grafitti painted and never any trouble ? Then it could be a cartel house.

Have you tried Molotov Coctails ?

I called a good friend in the local Govt. who I should have called in the first place and he came over because I told him I would sell him my Barry Bonds autographed baseball (which I have another and he has really wanted it for a long time) and he asked why the house alarm is going off. I explained everything to him and he made a call.

In ten minutes the alarm was off and he received a call on his cell and told me his buddy from the power company cut all power to the home..... Ha!

Im glad I didn't do it. Don't need any lookin over my shoulder headaches.....

Lencho---- I once checked out www.acomplaintfreeworld.org after the wife said I complain to much. They sent me a purple colored rubber bracelet and if you complain you are to take the bracelet off and put it on the other hand and so on. I did it so much that I wore the darn thing out.

I have mellowed in my middle age but I hope none of you go through this. It has been an hour without that darn thing and I'm back to my old self. Now I'm looking for something else to complain about!

Thank you all for your suggestions and comments.
