Reality Check

I am not the run and hide type. I have friends that live in Washington, Alaska, Nevada, Idaho, Hawai'i, South Carolina as well as all over California. All have seen graffiti in and around their neighborhoods. Where exactly do we go to avoid graffiti. Please don't suggest we move to Coeur d'Alene..that place has problems far deeper than spray paint.

I agree. But it is not without its problems. You live where you live. There is no "reality check" about it. I know many fine people who can't afford to live anywhere else but the inner city. They live amongst the ilk (graffiti, etc..) Where are they to move? Their reality check is that is where they have to live because that is where the jobs are. They are lucky to get a job at all...much less one that pays minimum wage. Most are not in this country "legally" so it is very difficult to obtain consistent, good-payin work. Most work very hard and are very respectful, considerate, hard-working folks. Consider it a blessing that you live in a beautiful place but I can assure you..it is not perfect. Graffiti sucks..but it is just something that SOME (apparently less fortunate) people have to endure in life.

Back in 1994 my wife & I were living and working on the British Virgin Island of Virgin Gorda when the first and only graffiti appeared on the island. It had us shaking in our flip flops....with laughter that is.

Remove it the very next day. They like to look at there (artwork) and when you make them keep risking getting caught in the same place, they stop tagging your area. I speak from experience, being a care taker of a large downtown property in a big city here in Baja. Remove it and they will after a couple of times tag other places where their paint will stay longer.

Use a chain to open it?

I'm not so sure that's all real. It's one of those urban myths, but this one circulates all through Latin America.

I think "abren con cadena" means that when the door opens, there is a secondary chain, like on hotel rooms.

I think we introduce a little Pacific Northwest to our southern brothern...bear traps !
No, no, no it will only T them off.
In downtown LA, I have seen the "artists" hanging from overpasses and even a train bridge just to get the hard to get yet super visible tag. Plus you would be surprised to see who actually are doing the tags...
PLus on the walls of the 110N tunnels next to Dodger Stadium, the taggers are using the dirty walls as their canvas. Their signs are being made with the use of a cleaning solvent. Using the clean wall underneath to bring a "high gloss tag". Amazingly the walls have not been cleaned for over four months now.

Quite frankly. let em tag tunnels, who should give a squat? The paint may actually help protect the cement from being boring.

Well I guess someone handed JTS his burro cause I haven't seen any new tags from him in a while :lol:

This is so funny, I have been laughing for days.

Here is a good example of someone who does not read the whole post, only the parts they want to then they assume everything else.
They are not using paint in the tunnels, they are using cleaning solvents to make theirs tags: hence, partial cleaning the walls down. Its an abstract thing. ;)

Yeah, let them paint boxcars and bridges.....nobody owns those. You mean let them paint anything they want as long as it is not in my backyard. Makes perfect sense.

Are you volunteering to orgainize those vandals to tell them where to paint and what is offensive and obscene and what is not? Perhaps you would like to donate the front of your house to one of the pinchis you think is particularly talented. I'm sure it will increase the value of your house since it IS an original work of art. Maybe it would even be an improvement.
