Anti-Mexico Reports and Canadians??

Just an observation...

During my daily google news search of "mexico" , "Tiuana", Acapulco", etc.. I have noticed alot of negative Mexican views coming from Canadian sources.. I know its coming from all around.. BUT this seems to stand out..

Anyone else noticed this??

Listen Folks.. I was making an observation... Thats it.. as to something I Have noticed.. I am NOT saying anything against ANYONE.. Simply saying that in the past year that I have had a reason to look at Mexican related News articles... something has stuck out at me... Not saying that all canadians, or not saying MOST, or anything.. JUST saying I am and Have in the past Noticed it.. (ususally about how ""Dangerous it is"" or Canadians jailed over here and are ""Innocent"" etc etc

No reason for anyone to challenge me.. If you havent noticed it, then just answer.. "NOPE, not noticed it" since that is what I asked..

I know alot of canadians come here! BUT I also know that tourism is down across the board right now... with everyone!! Even in the Winter time i'm sure...

like i said, JUST an observation!

UPDATE..

Maybe its the way I gather my news.. who knows??

I think what MExicoGringoGuy is talking about is there was a case of a lady in a Mexico prison for something like 8 years, for a case that she was innocent of. I know alot of people that we talk to from our province think that we are absolutely crazy, driving down, and must have a death wish to camp on the beach. Those people seem to think that Baja, or Mainland Mexico is like the wild wild west of yesteryear. They only seem to here, about the drug lords, and shootings or the kids on spring break that get in trouble.

The media here (in our province) have over sensionalized what is really going on in Mexico. We always tell people, that you have to travel smart, and keep your eyes open. We will not stop travelling, and still try to get friends and family to come on down and see for themselves what Baja has to offer.

Yes - there are a few stories in the news about Canadians getting into trouble in Mexico (e.g., being co-arrested in Los Barriles with a high-profile criminal, fatally falling off a balcony in Cancun, getting shot to death at a bar outside a bar, being held in a jail and released, etc.).

I don't think the reports reflect negatively on one nationality or another because I think there are just as many stories of any tourists from anywhere either doing stupid human tricks or just getting to the wrong place at the wrong time.

I'm not keeping count, but for a while it seemed as though certain nationalities were always getting killed on some sight-seeing tour in Canada. If one looks at who has the wherewithall to travel and where their preferred desitinations are - this might account for the skewed numbers.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Our friends that we discuss Mexico with sure are happy for us that we are planning a move to Baja. I can't recall one person here having any worries for our safety. When talking about the jailed Canucks , the attitude seems to be that they must have done something wrong to end up there.
Tony...I didn't mean to put you on the defensive over this...Just that I havn't heard any anti-Mexico or anti-Baja sentiment in our town..As for the news media here..They seem to be just passing on the info that comes from
the US
Hope thats a better explanation for our feelings here

The story of the Canadian woman who was held for years in a Mexican jail, did garner a lot of attention from the media. However, I don't believe there is nearly the amount of anti-Mexican news in Canada as the USA.

The imprisoned woman, who would probably still be there had she not threatened suicide, got screwed on the whole thing. One could have thought she was a guest of GW at Guantanamo. Even the principal perpitrator of the crime swore she had nothing to do with anything.
I wonder when her mini-series will be ready?

Camping in the winter in Baja, we used to joke with all of the Canadians. We all decided that BCS actually stood for British Colombia South.

There is also a huge presense of Canadians on the mainland during the winter --- ones that return EVERY year.

It seems like bad news stories come from everywhere - Canada, US, and Mexico. Haven't noticed more from one place or the other.

And, actually, we hear more from people here in the San Diego area about the "horrors" of Mexico. Many have lived here their entire life and would not cross that border for ANY reason. Their loss.

Interesting

Dennis you are psychic! Check this update:
" She told 680News she has been looking for a book and movie deal in an effort to help pay off her $70,000 legal debt. Martin hopes actresses Winona Ryder or Charlize Theron will be available to take the lead role..."

Glad to hear that, Bob. I live on the road to La Bufadora and the traffic has been like the I5 freeway all summer. Never seen it like this. I believe most of it is from here, Mexicali....Ensenada....Etc. but, there are a lot of N. Americans as well.

Bob and Susan:
Do you think it is Possible that the good Business is related to the Number of Fish showing in Muelge , since April when there were Posts about the Mass of Fish??
As to the Candians; people are People , no matter where they are Rasied.
The Canadians did fly into Loreto on many Occasions from as far at Toronto when the New Presidente was being Built,
The only Joke I notice was about their having to go back to Canada to get Medical Service for their Blistered Skin after laying on the Beach. They would tell me later they had to wait 30 days to see a Doctor.

The couple who took 1/2 of the Old Flying Sportsmans Club Property developed it into a very good Place. I think the guy was an Ex Race Car Driver out of Vancouver, very nice People and Hard Workers,.

I have not noticed any Bad News directed toward the Canadians.?

I think I do know of what Tony is referring to. There have been a few Canadians very vocal on some of the forums about the dangers of Mexico due to their association with some friends/family who currently or recently have had problems down here. It struck me at first too until I realized it was the same story/posters over and over. I seem to remember one case from Cancun that I saw on many of those forums.

Just my dos centavos...
