Yes, we can all choose.

"I guess in the long run that is their choice."

I actually think it's their mission.

Why should I have to tolerate someone telling lies about me?

Why should I have to put up with someone dissing my business?

Why should I have to defend our little town?

Why should I have to put up with personal insults and inuendo?

Just not my idea of entertainment.

I guess it's a way for some to get attention. Well, it worked.:(

I am the 24th registered member of Nomads. As far as I can tell, there are only 6 members that have registered before me that still post. One is my good buddy Skeet-er-doodle-do, and the other is DavidK. I have never met either one. There are a whole cr@p load that have registered after me. Some good, most not, and a few that are exemplary. So what. Groups come and go, personalities change, stay the same and then die. Life goes on. I used to be quite active. As more people showed up, I got less active. As more people showed up, I got peeed off. I found there was a direct correlation between the number of registered users on Nomads and the amount of people who visit baja. So now I lurk. Sometimes I surface. Sometimes it's to "right a wrong", sometimes it's to offer perspective, sometimes it's to be sarcastic. Lately the sarcastic thing doesn't seem to go over all that well. My take is that Baja is getting saturated, and just as overcrowded rats start turning on each other, so do nomads. Overall, it's fairly amusing, just as it was in it's infancy. By the way, I discovered a peice of heaven this summer - 16 deg 15'77.44S by 151 deg 49'09.26"W. You wouldn't believe the fish in this lagoon - divers paradise!! To me, that's the new baja!

Whoa there, Cowboy - pull back on those reins!

After being Deleted for a Week, giving up on the Off Topic over a year ago, and gettin insulted just about everytime I Posted, I Skeet/Loreto have after serious Thought decided that I am wasteing my time. I will not ever quit but I am going to take a Leave of Absence for at least a Year, then come back and see if this board has inproved or has gone into the Drain>

Thanks Doug for putting up with me.

I could still whip some of these Punks with one arm tied behing my Back. Even if I am 77 years Young!!

Comitan, I think you are right. The flaming has always been here and the discourse in America has dummied down in our life time. I appreciate your perspective.

I'm curious David. Do you normally go onto message boards owned by others and suggest that posters go post somewhere else?

A very poignant response

Ahem, back to the subject at hand...

I received this U2U an hour ago, and I will not divulge the sender nor his location. But, he is a great guy and has been a great asset to this board, and he also is gone....

"Thanks Dick for your comments re: the current status of the Board. I used to suggest to folks to go to Nomads for Baja info, but surely would not now. The usefulness of the board is gone, folks that knew Baja won't post anymore. I have been on since the inception, the Amigos board before, yet now I rarely check Nomads as it is pathetic how it has become a playground for people with a different agenda than Baja. To me it is a loss. I will continue to spend my winters in ********, 4 wheeling to missions and Visitas and other interesting sites. I just won't try to share on this Board. Now I see Skeet has bailed (don't blame him after Ron and others ridiculed him). I do check Fred's board daily and thankfully his is carefully moderated. Again, appreciate you standing up for reason and consideration of others. Keep enjoying Baja (and I assume, backpacking). If you get to "(deleted from here- too personal)

I am going to miss him, he was/is a treasure...

Look everybody, if you want to leave then go! If you want to stay then stay!
Quit your complaining. If there are things you like on here, enjoy them. If there is something you don't like , then avoid it.
Please stop telling everyone what to do. I don't like all the negative news stories etc. but I'm not loosing any sleep over it.
I said earlier that this type of thread is nothing but whiney drivel and that's exactly want it has turned into.
Doug please put this thread out of it's misery already.
Enough!

I don't know what you mean by that and I don't really care either.
This entire thread, started by you, was pointless and had nothing to do with Baja.
I guess there was a thead, it didn't meet the rules, you reported it, and it got deleted. End of story.
So what!
I guess we are all proud of you for doing it. Personally I wouldn't have wasted my precious time, as I am doing now responding to you.
But I will again request that this thread die and ask each Nomad to please refrain from posting "This is what is wrong with the Nomad board" type threads.
As I said previously, try to be nice to each other and tolerant of each other.
Just as Baja is different things to different people so is this board.

Most of us here do not have a problem with the news stories from the newer, member(s). How many new member(s) there really is/are is difficult to say as I suspect that there is obviously one personality at least logging on under different names who even responds to their own posts. If you look at the style, times logging in, etc it becomes pretty obvious.

As far as that goes I figure anyone suffering with multiple personality disorder has an even bigger problem so I could care less if they leave or stay.

The bigger point to me and others who have stated so, is that offering a different opinion/point of view is not an invitation to be immediately blindsided with some of the rudest / off the wall comments and behavior I have seen on message boards. At that point I think a line is crossed. I don't need forum rules or guidelines to know that - proper upbringing and common decency has taught me so. To me it has nothing to do with whether you joined in 2002 or yesterday. Common courtesy is just that and when one fears posting based on the lack of that courtesy many will and do choose to discontinue participating.

We can discuss even this issue in civil terms but please stop trying to make it an issue between wanting to hear news or not hear it. It has much more to do with just common courtesy and respect we show others who don't share our opinion or viewpoint of that news.

Lighten up folks...

PS And have a nice day!

Is there some reason why you keep posting this apocryphal information on nameless posters who have left? The board statistics show that board participation has grown steadily. People come, people go.

Come to terms.

The raw figures may seem to indicate this, but if you dig a little in the member list, you will find that a very large percentage of those listed as recently signed up members are really people attempting to post spam on the site. They are registered, their websites are related to internet drug sales, etc, and they never post after registering.

I think one could conclude that the actual number of real new members is much smaller that what shows up in the membership list.
