Judy, You are right. This is the best place to check for up to date info. I've been reading this board for several years but now that I'm down in
Loreto about once a month I decided to join. What a great group.

Wish a few more reporters had a rain gauge like Bob in Mulege. What seems like a downpour to a guy from San Diego, may just be a thick fog to someone
from Seattle. Observations are subjective, numbers mean things.
Still the reports are welcome and give visions of a greener Baja, just like last February.

mulege on the bay...
didn't rain last night
but lots of wind... maybe 20-30mph...non stop
we were in the concrete casitas watching tv
actually we got a total of about 8 inches...this storm
i drained the pool ALL day yesterday and its still full
water came over the top twice and NO WATER RUN-OFF drains into it
ONLY from it
this storm produced ALOT of water
the temp is 78 degrees and seems cool
we had to use a sheet last night in bed

i suggest if you have a home near the river you come down ASAP

San Felipe Storm Update
Just looked at the webcam at the San Felipe Site: http://www.sanfelipe.com.mx/weather/index.html and it shows partly clowdy. Shirley stated her unofficial rain gauge showed .4 inch rain at 7am
Tuesday AM. Looks like Julio is weakening.

Report from Mulege 07:00 local time
Per telecon w/Saul Davis of Saul's Tienda:
Water yesterday 10 a.m. reached the floor of the river-side upstream house at La Fortuna & the surrounding ground for maybe 30 meters north. Hard
rain washed a lot of dirt off local hillsides into the streets; otherwise no big deal other than power out.
High tide was reported to be ~noon, at plus 3.5 feet.
Flash flood hit hard in afternoon. River flooded in front of Saul"s till there was water in the road at entrance to La Fortuna. That would put crest
level at about a meter below flood from Hurricane John.
One soldier died during rescue operations up Icehouse Road. Apparently he got swept into the current. The soldiers now garrisoned at the airport
(since the armed heist of a Cessna (206 IIRC)) had their HMMWV & were pulling residents to high ground.
Power is out; water is out probably due to no power. Phones are working in town at least, but only if you have an old Western Electric type phone or
generator. Anyone w/a fridge or freezer- your stuff is going bad. I haven't raised anyone on the south side of the river, so phone may be out there
for now (I get ring tones but no answers, and no recordings from phone co.), or maybe everybody scrambled, or everybody has a 110V phone.
Based on the reports, I surmise the following:
Jorge's Park- hammered, again. Good place for a trailer or motorhome that leaves during chubasco season.
Orchard Village- 7 feet pus or minus your location.
Oasis- 1-5 feet depending on location (me probably 4, I hope).
Jungle- I'm guessing now- 0-3 feet, hopefully less
Maribel's- probably minimal cleanup in homes, streets a mess
La Fortuna- 0-8 feet depending.
Upstream from bridge-
High School- guessing 4-5 feet, probably killed the library again, and the computers.
Due to improvements to power lines after H.John, I expect power to be back up late today or tomorrow; that assumes the govt can mobilize. After John
there were surplus workers which had been moved to Baja Sur, so getting power back up was about 5 days (2 in town); this time the south side of river
& Loma Azul should follow more quickly due to improvements. All depends on mobilization. Water will come back on/off/on/off till major leaks are
repaired; hopefully there will be fewer of those this time.
There will be a swath of Mexican families in the arroyo upstream of the bridge that are flooded out. We have rich, fairly recent experience w/relief
efforts, so:
bring clothing, all ages; leave it at the Mission & Padre will handle handouts. After H.John there was a good size pile of clothing donations
left, but those were mostly rags that had been donated by Mexican families further south. All the gringo clothing donations found homes. Kids will
need new school supplies; backpack, 8.5x11 spiral notebook, pens, pencils.
Linens. Pillows. Soft goods should come wrapped well in plastic with a label as to contents as conditions will be muddy for a week, then dusty for,
well, a long time. Mosquito repellent w/DEET, don't fool around w/the kid stuff; after H.Marty came the dengue fever, so please take that seriously.
Sponges, brushes, cleaning supplies. Plastic snow shovels will be a great help for the first week if you are leaving today or tomorrow; after that
flat nose & regular shovels; if you are thinking of upgrading tools, donate the old ones now, and thanks in advance. Rubber deck shoes will also
be good for a week or ten days.
Thanks for all the help I'm sure will come. I'm in Sacramento now, packing the trailer & pickup. Once more into the breach!!

From the San Felipe web site:
Tuesday 26 August, 5:14 a.m. The skies just opened up. It is pouring hard. All night thunderclouds overhead performed an opera of rythmic lightning;
without the thunder. Heavy clouds completely cover the entire area so that even at this hour it is dark shattered with continuing lightning strikes.
Strong winds clatter the venetian blinds on open windows, awakening the entire household. I can't wait to read the rain gauge when this lets up. My
planned trip to San Diego is off for a couple of days.
5:38 a.m. the electrical power is tripping..bad on electrical equipment.
The wind has calmed some and rain is slowing for a bit but it is still dark under these heavy clouds. There is a little thunder out there. I shall now
watch this show from my patio.
6:13 a.m.Daylight: The rain has stopped. Finally it is clearing. We can now check the rain-gauge which showed a whopping .4 inch of rain water. The
clouds are moving around now; still heavily covered skies.
The wind has absolutely stilled in the last 1/2 hour. And now we can see the water, but with no sunrise reflecting on it's calm surface. The ground is
soaked with puddles everywhere. And all this happened in one early morning hour.(st) Yesterday’s Max96 F, Min 83 F. Temperature currently 82.4
Humidity currently 64%.

This is Sharon Ferrelli, Tom and Patti Higginbotham's daughter. I don't know if you know them. They live in the Jungle. Any more information about
that area? They are in San Diego and computerless. I am trying to get information for them. Thanks for any help you can give.

Bornfisher, you are spot on. Five inches of rain in Seattle is a non event but a couple of inches in the desert can wreak havoc -- then again in some
locales lots of rain in one critical location can be perhaps 10 fold what it might have been on the other side of town. We got 2.5 inches from Julio
in this little village -- it left us landlocked but only for a few hours -- the storm was moving at 12 kts so it didn't linger and that was key. Local
reports trump anything else.

Just read on the San Felipe Site that Hwy 5 is closed, due to a washout between Mexicali and San Felipe, at La Ventana.

the SOC- Unfortunately like Fay I don't think Julio's done yet--

Russ in Punta Chivato asked me to let everybody know that he is fine--just trapped out there without a working computer! The road to Chivato has been
washed out for a couple of days and there was about 8 inches of rain running through the area. As soon as he is able to get out he will go back to
the states and get his computer fixed. He didnt report any serious damage or loss of life...just a lot of mud.
