Nice to hear it NOT be slaughtered. The fans seemed appreciateive and even the players stood still for a change.

Beautifully done.

But do audiences ever sing the anthem, accompanied by the band, or an organ? Anywhere, anytime? Not that I ever see on TV, or even at our local high school. Seems it's always a performance that the audience listens too.

We're going to end up with a generation that doesn't know the lyrics to our anthem, THE BEST NATIONAL ANTHEM IN THE WORLD!

Back in elementary school we had to memorize the SSB.

All four stanzas.

Very heart touching.

I remember saying the Pledge of Allegiance each morning in school, and the feelings of pride in America from which resulted.

So the tune used for the American anthem was written by a Brit! ha! :tumble:

The tune was also used by Luxembourg for their national anthem, though this has since changed.

Naturally I disagree with Don Alley's earlier post........

God Save the Queen is the best anthem in the world! :P

And, for us veterans

A new Federal law passed last year enables all of us who served (honorably, I presume) to salute during the anthem.

This is really special for many of us, and I have been practicing lately, well, I actually practiced a little in front of the mirror before I went to the races last month and did it in public.

Our Navy tradition said no salutes without a hat on (covered vs. uncovered)

No one can tell me if we are still supposed to take off our hats, then salute (not Navy tradition) or leave the hat on during the anthem (not acceptable tradition) and do the salute,

Whatever, it is a very special honor for many of us,
and I hope more will start to practice it.

(Always made me cringe to see Mr. Clinton- a devout non-veteran- salute, uncovered, when he got off the copter)
