Minimal report on Julio and San Nicolas'
I just had a phone message from Kenny in San Nic. He got word that he had five feet of water in his place and lost a couple of walls. He says that
Chuey Bastida is wiped out and neighbors just upstream had major damage. Still no report on my place. The best I can hope for is a couple of feet of
water and lots of fencing down.
I would still love to have any information about all the houses between the Conusupo and Don Chico's place.

I heard the news today Oh Boy (Beatles)
There is finally some fairly comprehensive news from San Nicolas'.. The theory is that the bulldozer work that was done in the arroyo after John
backfired. The flashflood swept through the south side of the mouth of the arroyo. There are no reports of injuries. We are wiped out. There is
nothing but a slab. I'm still waiting for information about my boat motor and trailer. They were nestled into a little grotto in the Mesquites,
maybe they got hung up and didn't go to the SOC. That's the last best hope.
Doug's place survived. Pat's place lost all the windows. Ed and Maggie's survived but is trashed. No news about Nelson and Jim. Chico lost a lot of
stuff. Kenny had five feet of water and lost a couple of walls. Paul and Valerie the same. Chuey lost everything. Bob and Connie the same as Kenny and
Sue.
We always knew that this was a temporary arrangement. If the weather didn't get us then some form of greed was likely to make the situation
impossible.
Cathy and I have ALWAYS said that we had a lot more HEART invested in San Nicolas' than MONEY. Since my injury at work and my early retirement and
the collapse of the Real Estate industry here at home taking out my little inspection business it has been hard to come up with the rent and the cost
of 3500 miles of travel. We have tons of great memories. Lots of blood sweat and tears. We loved it.

I am so sorry for your troubles. Your heartache is really felt thru your words.
I am hoping that all is not as bad as it sounds and that you will be able to
go back and rebuild and continue to spend some time at a place you obviously
love.

Sounds like the other side of the arroyo may be OK ? What about Dale's place any word? Also the place behind Pablos? I got an e-mail in to
Cudberto but no word. Kenny did not know. Thanks for any more update.

Very sorry to hear about the problems in San Nic.
I remember being surprised my first time there, that most folks were living at the edge of the arroyo.
I knew the reason was the beautiful palm grove and private beaches.
But hey, look at the bright side, you still have a slab.
4 walls and a roof and you're back in business !
Hope things "pick up" for you Perry, this economy sucks for us construction-related guys.

San Nicolas is a very, very special place whether you stay and refigure (notice I did not necessarily say rebuild) or let go. Either way you have
beautiful dreams.
We are continuing the muck-out of our house in Mulege. No sense kicking myself for past decisions-- just get on with it and focus on the love of this
nature that has brought me here.

Well, this morning different and equally perplexing news. The latest is that the boat motor trailer and the bodega building are gone, but the casita
is standing and trashed.
600 feet of fences gone. We have some serious decisions to make about starting over on the flood plain. (If at all)
It IS a great place, but the in-shore fishing is gone, and I also understand that the conusupo is moving in next door. We always had a sense of "some"
privacy before and I really valued it.
Sounds like my boat may be in "the octopuses garden in the shade".

No we have not met face to face, but when I posted some pics two years ago, you recognized that vado the guys were working on ....good eye !!
I consider some posts shared on this forum to be a sort of "meeting"....

Perry I am sorry for your loss and I do know how special San Nicolas is to you... Perhaps things are not as bad as they sound or that the economy will
improve within a short time?
You have beautiful memories and photos, and looking at them is the next best thing to being there! If you would ever like to have a web page to show
them (again), I would be happy to host them.
