Does anyone have a Favorite Latin music artists they want to share?
To kick things off, I want to share about Felipe Pelaez. Pelaez is a native of Northern Colombia - the city of Barranquilla to be exact. His music
style/genre is Vallenato. Felipe has a killer voice, and his backing musicians are top-notch.

Augusto Polo Campos
My wife's father is a cousin to this man. i don't really get into the older Peruvian crooners, but you might dig it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augusto_Polo_Campos
not to go off topic but on her dads side (Polo) they can trace their lineage all the way to the first Polo to arrive in Peru, Juan Polo de Ondegardo.
on mom's side (Montero), mom's great grandfather was a president of Peru, Lizardo Montero.

A few more:
Los Mocosos (group out of San Francisco, CA)--bilingual synthesis of various musical styles. You can sample their work on the net.
Guardabarranco (brother and sister from Nicaragua)--folk, political music
Mercedes Sosa (por supuesto)--argentina, folk music or "nueva cancion"

Great choice. I whole-heartedly agree. Passed on around ten years back,
Oh, well, back to the living....Carlos Santana. Did somebody already mention him?

Mercedes Sosa is a "Tucumana" from the northwest province in Argentina and where I went as a foreign exchange student at the age of 16 for a year more
moons ago than I can count. Had a chance to meet her in person - a very charming and talented woman that is the voice and soul of her pueblo...
