Recent trip to Cabo

My wife and I just got back from our first road trip to Cabo and back in my truck. We left on 7/17 and returned to So.Cal. on 8/1. The weather was hot and muggy as soon as we hit Santa Rosalia. The road was in fairly good condition the whole way there and back. The only gas station that was out of gas when we needed it was when we were coming back just north of Guer. Negro. We just doubled back 15 miles and got gas at G.N. The check points were cool on the way south, but they checked us pretty good on the way north. Loreto was my favorite town. My Dad's uncle was very instumental in the restoration of the Mission in Loreto. His name was Modesto Sanches. He was a priest there from 1947 till he died at 90 years old in 1987. This trip was not only to cover Baja, but to learn some of my family history in the process. Of couse I'm leaving out a boatload of info about our excursion, so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks

Thanks for sharing

I think Modesto Sanches was the priest that was very popular with the people of Loreto. Would that be his green jeep up on the hill just south of town? If so, he was loved by the people in Loreto and San Javier. He worked both churches every Sunday. He would do the morning service in Loreto and then drive the jeep all the way up to San Javier for a late morning mass. Then all the way back to Loreto for the evening mass. They put the jeep on the hill with the fence around it after the priest passed away so all would remember him always. Yes, Loreto is my favorite town too. I have been going there for over 30 years now. I love the people and the town. The islands are great and the politics are forever going on. I imagine Loreto is somewhat like what small town America was like in the 30's and 40's. When my time comes, I hope to have my ashes scattered in the sea in front of Loreto.

Thanks, Sharky, for that info. We've wondered about that Jeep for some time.
