Contemporary Latin American films...any Nomads like them?
I was just now browsing the entries for this years Los Angeles Times Latin Film Festival, and I was blown away by all of the good offerings.
While I was in Colombia in July, I had the privilidge of seeing that country's "El Angel Del Accordion" or "The Accordion Angel" a film about that
country's (other) powerful export - Vallenato music.
Mexico had several entries this year.  http://www.latinofilm.org/films.php
Cumbia Callera (or Street Cumbia) which revolves around Cumbia music and the (originally Colombian) artistry of accordionist/singer Celso Piña.
Limbo, Enemigos Intimos (Intimate Enemies), Purgatorio (Purgatory), Cochochi, Casi Divas (Almost Divas), Arrestado Domicillio (House Arrest), and 40
Dias (40 Days)
Cumbia Callera is supposedly an NC-17 film for all of its nudity (and everything else involved  )

Capt. Mike, I think you might be thinking of "Amores Perros" which is indeed a good movie.
"Y, tu mama tambien" was a good flick, and so was "KM 31" if you like horror/suspense. I'm not sure if KM 31 was ever released to the US market
and/or available with English subtitles.

I thought "Y, tu mama tambien" was incredibly thought-provoking. You don't get that often in this age of, "Beverly Hills Chihuahua."

I spent several years in the DF in the 60s when MOST Mexican movies were "churros", from the Churrobusco studios and cranked out like those sugared
pastry sticks. There must be 100 or more with Vicente Fernandez and the same plot; tame a horse, sing a song, shoot some baddy, sing a song, romance
the girl, sing a song... But even then there were a few good ones. If you can find them, I recommend "Pedro Paramo", "Animas Trujanos" (With Toshiro
Mifune playing a Oaxacan Indian, "Macario", an oldy.
BTW, imported American movies were called "Gringadas". Always wondered what they'd call Chinese movies...
All my childhood I wanted to be older. Now I\'m older and this chitn sucks.

Thanks Ken for the recommendations. We are always looking for more spanish-language movies/films.
Here's a list of the ones we were enjoyed from Blockbuster the past two summers:

Cuba--Guantanamera (not to be confused with Guantanamero), Things I left in Havana, Honey for Oshun, Before night falls

I love the Narco films. I saw the latest Miami Vice film and liked it, but I loved the documentary "Cocaine Cowboys." The absolute best film about
bad guys/good guys I have seen yet.

Anyone know why "Tijuana Makes Me Happy" is so hard to find? It's not on Amazon or Netflix. I finally just emailed Netflix and requested the title.
If other Netflix users are curious to rent the movie, email a request to them...maybe more emails will increase the likelihood of them getting it.
I have to watch a Spanish-speaking movie for my Spanish class, and would like to see that one. I've seen some of the others mentioned. I really
liked Y Tu Mamá También.

My husband's favorites are the "India Maria" films. Don't know if these were films or a TV series or what... He thinks they are hilarious, and is
always trying to get the girls to watch them when they're on the TV. She's kind of like a Lucille Ball, getting into all sorts of crazy situations.
He also watches that crazy show with the guy running around in the Bee costume, so you can see his taste. Just one of the reasons why we have two
TV's in the house!!! Heather

I don't think the film was formally distributed - nor do I think the film found a proper distributor...

Check out "The Sea Inside" with Jaier Bardem and Belen Rueda. Award winning Spanish Film with Chiliean director. Based on a true story.

My favorite is The Three Amigos.The way Steve Martin wore his dangleballs and spoke with a spanish accent gave me chills.
