Edictos (Public Notices)
Does anyone know how I might track public notices (edictos) in the La Paz or Mulege Newspapers or other sources? I have been online with
Sudcaliforniano and I cannot find a thread that takes me to that information.
I am curious because the Edjido in our area is attempting to illegally take property of those who leave in the summer claiming they have abandon their
properties. In order to proceed with legal action they must provide public notice to those they want evicted. They must do this three times. The
edicto is a proclamation and must be responded to within a certain timeframe so it is important to be vigilant and monitor these notices. So far they
have been using the La Paz and Mulege papers.
Our property in Posada Concepcion is under this attack by the Ejido as are several other beach communities in Bahia de Concepcion. We have identified,
through a friend, that at least one edicto was published in Sept. in La Paz. Fortunately it was found and responded to, but they can continue this
practice. They tried it last year also. Apparently there is an old Mexican law that allows them to take abandon property.
Any assistance anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

What is the time limit for which they (the Ejido) consider a property abandoned?
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

It is pretty easy to monitor the Sudcalifornian on the internet but I can't say for sure that I have ever seen any edictos on there or not. Will look
into that and see if I can find anything.

el sudcaliforniano does not publish everything in their paper online, not even all of the articles and not even close. only way is to have people
here monitor the papers. I have access to the La Paz paper, actually everyone in the state has access to it. in Loreto they receive this paper in
the afternoons it gets shipped by bus every day. unfortunately they ship only a limited number so often when i want to buy one there are no more
left.
do you have a lawyer that can do these reviews on your behalf?
another suggestion is us nomads. we could take turns looking and report if we see anything like that for you. i'd be willing to buy one, one day a
week and check for you and probably others will do the same.
i can't help with the mulege paper though.

I really appreciate all the replies. I don't know exactly how long one has to be away from a property to consider it abandon, but this was attempted
last year by the Ejido. This time the edicto is a civil complaint by an individual none of the residents know and the original land owners (we have
the documentation back to the government sale of the land) don't know. We think he may be a frontman for the ejido. We're not sure, but trying to
find out. This land has always been private property, never edido so something is very fishy!!!
Anyway, we are trying to get several friends in various places (La Paz, Constitution, and Santa Rosalia) to monitor the papers to see if something
gets posted again. It needs to be posted three times and we do not know for sure if this one is 1, 2 or 3, but at least we found it and everyone is
responding through their attorney. We are trying to get a class action response.
Thanks again to everyone and if anyone learns anything about this sort of thing we would like to know.

Edictos are paid advertisements generated by the lawyer representing the party. They are not classifieds nor are they handled like public
announcements in the US. Monitoring the newspapers is the only way to see them.
