Can I borrow your wife??
Last week a CHPette pulled me over on a rural road, put me down for 70 in a 55, but cut the charge to 65, whoopee.
Exactly one week later the same chick pulls me over for talking on my cell phone (long story on that one)
"Oh, this is only $20" sez she...
yeah, and $83 court costs, thank you very much..
Think I will move to Baja where there are no points on your record, no driving school and a little mordida to solve the problem.

Two weeks ago I was driving with a friend (her truck) through Insurgentes where on the northern end of town a cop motioned us to stop and began asking
for DL, Reg etc. I was calmly doing as asked when all of a sudden my friend leaned over me and lashed out with a barrage of horrible spanish. The
cop and I were both shocked - it came on so sudden and was so fierce (and so unintelligible)! I smiled at the cop who had taken his elbow of my door
and backed away. He just handed me the paperwork and motioned for us to get outta there.
I would never have had the guts to do what she did. I was so proud of her.

I have a funny one - I was driving north from TS to the border and in that long stretch from La Paz to Constitucion, I just HAD to find a bathroom. I
got into Constitucion, saw the old Pemex on the left and just turned left at the red light and whipped into the lot. As I was basically running from
my car to the doorway a police truck pulled in and asked me to stop. I told him he would need to wait just a minute. I came back out and he explained
that I was not allowed to turn left at that light and didn't I see the sign?
I told him the only sign I was looking at was Pemex (Bano). He had a good laugh and I followed him to the police station and paid my $5 fine. I was
totally embarrassed but everyone at the station got a great laugh out of it.

I had exactly the same experience-------70 in a 55 (I thought it was a 65 zone) on a down grade going north thru West Walker River Canyon north of
Bridgeport, Ca--------reduced it to 65 in a 55, and he explained that it would be a minimal fine--------got the bill and it was $188. Wow, now I
know how little Mono County balances their tiny budget!!!
Oh well-------I will "watch it" next time, for sure.

I recommend the humble, polite approach to Mexican police. 
But don't pay them mordidas if you're innocent.

Why?
The US cop signed the ticket under penalty of perjury.
You appear in court and you get your chance to cross-examine the cop. You then ask about the reduced speeding judgement by the cop when he(she) signed
that the written speed on the ticket is true under penalty of perjury.
The cop perjured himself with the incorrect speed on the ticket.
The judge will dismiss the ticket & scold the cop.

I Guess I Have Been Flying Under the Radar
In fifteen years of going from Rosarito through TJ (yes, the old road, fdt!) I have been stopped only once.
Eight years ago, at 4 am, I was taking my very sick cat to a vet in San Diego and was probably going way over the speed limit; a federale stopped me
on the cuota midway through Rosarito to ask me why my placas weren't current (someone had cut off my sticker).
I showed him my current registration and explained about my cat.
He let me go, warning me to be more calm (i.e., stop crying while driving) and careful.

Interesting, that same story by the TJ cop having been not given professional courtesy by a cop in San Diego a few weeks ago was what a cop outside
Cd. Constitucion said to my friend about a year ago. Sounds like they like that one. We bought it. Friend did not get a ticket but we bought the
story. Even had some empathy going for the poor disrespected fellow. I feel stupid.
