Texting to U.S. with Telcel Cell Phone?

Has anyone been successful in texting up to the US? I am using an Amigo Plan fone from Telcel. I was told to send a txt enter + (area code) and number ie: +714-555-1212. I am heading back down in the morning to below Ensenada and will try this method. However does anyone have experience texting?
Thanks,
Esteban:?:

I text back and forth often. It seems Moviestar mexican phones can text to any US phone but Telcel amigo does not always work. In some cases telcel amigo works with certain services and not with others, for example I think it often works with cingular and att. Strange...

That's good news as it is an AT&T/Cingular phone I most want to text to. Am I correct on just adding the plus sign and thats it?

+ implies international prefix though to be sure you can try 001 which is the correct prefix to dial from mexico to usa.

Now, also for some reason there may be an issue in receiving the reply text for telcel amigo pay as you go depending on the location and network of the sender receiver.

I am interested in your results.

dial 00 + country code + area code + phone number. (The country code for the USA and Canada is 1.)
There is a good writeup at

Well I figured it out. You dial +1-(area code)-(pre-fix)-(number) ie:+1714-555-1212 and it worked fine.
