solar panels
Hello all,
I have just purchased a newer R.V. and am in need of solar panels, this seems to be the place where a large majority of people use them. The
question, cheapest and best for Baja.

Probably the best place to get solar panels mounted and set up with a controller and all is either Quartzite or at Davis Dam outside of Yuma. It
depends on where you are coming from and where you plan on entering Baja. I always used a tilt up panel on my RV and could increase the amount of
solar power significantly over letting them lay flat. They can also help you determine how much panel and help you figure out your usage.

Davis Dam is outside Bullhead City AZ/Laughlin NV, not Yuma. Imperial Dam is on the Colo. River up from Yuma.
There's a solar dealer in Victorville CA that a lot here have used an swear by. Don't remember the name though.

Another couple of options:

http://backwoodssolar.com/
Research the cost of the same system from different resources. Sometimes the tax saving by buying outside California is pretty substantial, even when
you factor in shipping.

Jim..don't know how I could have forgotten this RV info site. It is by far the most useful tool on the Internet for questions about RVing..including
solar. I have been reading it for many years.
http://www.rv.net/forum/
Joining is free. Search the Tech questions columns or post a question there. You will get scads of up-to-date and hands-on information from
experienced RVers.
Here is a company in Oregon that is highly recommended by RVers:

5th winter off grid in baja with trailer. Started with 160 watts and 2 trojan 105s. Now doing tv and hughes net and have3 kyocera 130 watt, 2 L16
trojans and 2 trojan 125s. Seems to be overkill at the moment. 2 130 watts and 4 regular size golf carts would probably be fine. Whatever you do size
wise a solar boost controller is a good idea. Jim

Pomp, when you are connected to 30/50 amps, do you have an isolator to disconnect the solar panels to prevent overcharging the batts ??
