Los Arcos Hotel - La Paz
While strolling the malecon last night, we noticed all the lights were out in the hotel and restaurant and the front entrance was boarded up.
Apparently the workers are on strike. I don't know if they have contacted folks with reservations but you might want to make back-up plans if you've
booked a room there.
I think the world is run by C- students.

Did you notice if the cabanas de los arcos is closed too?

No, I didn't notice. I don't have any real information about the strike or how long it is expected to last. I just wouldn't want anyone coming down
for a vacation and find their hotel closed. None of the other hotels seem to be affected from what I saw.

I was hoping that it was closed for it's MUCH NEEDED refurbishment ..... The rooms are looking very tired.

One man's "tired" can be another woman's "rustico". I have stayed in enough Holiday Inns in my life to have no reservations in recommending Los Arcos
as one of several Mexican hotels in La Paz that has it's own brand of charm and a superb location. My experience there was more than satisfactory.
It all has to do with expectations, I guess. Whatever level of tourism La Paz receives this season, I hope Los Arcos is able to resolve their issues
and has as successful one as possible during these difficult economic times.

The strikes at Los Arcos are an ongoing thing, seems like this happens every couple of years. It will get settled.

Stayed at the Los Arcos and the Cabanas many times and was always a satisfactory experience. Love the Pelicanos bar (nicest in La Paz) and the
Bermejos restaurant.
But if you're used to your Todo Santos "Mansion" it would be rather meager.

No big deal if it gets settled soon or not. There's always bailout money available.

I like the hotel due to its proximity to everything, but I prefer staying out at the Fiesta Inn just north of town. Nice restaurants around the marina
if you don't want to go into town.

It's encouraging that the cabanas were open during the last strike. Our kids and grandkids love that hotel, and so do we. We are all hoping to spend
a night there in early January.
So I called and got no answer, then called the US # from the Moon Baja guidebook, and emailed the hotel. If I hear anything, I'll post it.
I wonder how La Perla is as a second choice? We like being right downtown.

dont know anything about the rooms at La Perla but this is another "on the malecon" hotel that is new and modern. I just plugged in some random dates
through a weekend around the first of January and it came up $81 for two adults with 2 queen beds. It is a family owned hotel. There is also one in
San Lucas

Judy,
Thanks for the link. Seven Crown looks beautiful, but not so grandkids friendly, as they are just 3 and 6 years old. I think we might go for Baja
Bed and Breakfast, as it has a nice courtyard and pool.
The kids will be flying out of San Jose airport, I think on the 7th. Hope to see you while we are down that way.

Cabanas are also closed-- I drove by today and strikers are sitting outside just like the main entrance at Los Arcos- the main entrance is boarded up-
but the stikers were mopping the steps- ?????

A boating couple that we met put their boat on the hard for some repairs. They decided to stay at the Arcos since it's close to the yard. Just talked
to them last night and they related their story to us.
About 5:30 on Saturday afternoon, the front desk called and told them to pack up and leave. In the rush and confusion, their overlooked one drawer.
All the evicted guests were milling around out front trying to figure out where to go when they remembered about the drawer with all their underwear
in it. Even though it had only been minutes since their exit, they were barred from re-entering as were guests that were returning unaware to their
rooms and hadn't yet been notified. Many had all their belongings still up in their rooms that they couldn't retrieve.
No one at the hotel would let anyone in. It took almost 24 hours before someone escorted them to the room to collect their clothing. We wondered if
anyone missed a flight out on Sunday. Apparently the hotel had notice from the union that the strike would begin on Saturday at sundown but the hotel
forgot to mention that to any of the guests.
