More on Credit Cards
Double check the rules on your CC's. Capital One for instance has a restriction on the $50. maximum rule for lost, stolen or misused Credit Cards.
".....within 100 miles of the billing address".
Most cards charge a conversion fee $ to Peso's, but it may be worth it to have the insurance of a maximum $50. liability in case someone gets your
number & runs up $18,000. like happened to a friend in Cabo.

The post above caused me some concern since I use the Capital One card in Baja on occassion. I called Capital One customer service this morning.
They said they absolutely cover fraud internationally including Mexico. They said my "friend" received incorrect information.
Regardless, I am very careful using any credit card in Mexico.

Like oxxo, we received the same info from Capitol One. I monitor our account daily via online, not only for unauthorized charges but to confirm there
is no conversion fee. For the last 2 years of traveling internationally there have been not fees. Actually there have been times the posted charge
is less than what we charged because the merchant make their deposit a few days later and the peso was to out benenfit.

American Express notifed me by mail they were increasing fees (service charge) for foreign currency conversions. I don't use the card for purchases
in Mexico- but have used it to withdraw cash (pesos) from Santanders branches.

Well, I went back and read there (Capital One) rules, and despite what they say, the quote in my original posting is exactly what there rules say.
So.... caveat emptor.

I guess that means I should thank the Ensenada woman who was caught using my cloned card at stores in Westminster and Costa Mesa. She saved me $50.

Call Capital One customer service directly, 800-955-7070 and clarify their policy with them.
Outside US or Canada, call collect 804-934-2001. I don't know why they would give an international number to call if they weren't concerned about
international fraud.
