Clams In San Felipe??
Locos Mocos, the crew that "fixes stuff free" for the Baja races, is headed down for the 250 to race and to celebrate the 50th birthday of a member.
And we need clams. Any suggestions on where to buy them in SF? I bought from the Clam Man but that was 20 years ago, maybe more. Thanks.

The "Clam Man" is still located just prior to the second traffic circle on the right side. (First circle is the one with the arches in it). It's the
building that has a large sign that says "Clam Man" and has large whale bones in front of it and standing up as well. Or, ask anyone.
I believe you have to order them up for the next day pick up. Possibly you could get them from a Seafood c-cktail vendor.
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

The Clam Man has been gone for quite some time! In the 1970's and early 80's he used to greet folks coming into town from his barber chair... We once
asked about buying clams from him...

My apologies then. I knew the Man was gone but was told the service still exist for supplying clams. That's not happening anymore?

My dad and the Clam man were buds. They had the same looks and personality. (my dad's hair was a little curlier ) Great photo David, I'm going to
forward it on to my mom. I'm sure she'd like to see it and remember old times.

Chuck, his 'business'/ home location is still there... true... (for some reason, Mexicans don't clear out abandoned strutures, it seems?) But, I
didn't know anyone was there doing business???

We still stop at the clam mans hacienda and buy clams every year. He is deceased but his family is still there. Steam them up with a little melted
butter, fresh lime juice and salsa huichcol and a cold corona.

Cold Corona is fine in a pinch... but I think most Nomads prefer a cold Pacifico instead! Otherwise your recipe is great.

Didn't that guy used to play Grizzly Adams?
What if you want to dig your own clams in SF? Where and how do you find them? I'm taking my family down in April for a week. We are renting a place
in Las Ventanas.
Also, any good recipes for clam chowder?

It has been stated before on Nomad about how illegal it is for non-Mexicans to dig clams to eat... So, I will presume you are only taking photos or
are Mexican and say they can be found either in the sand at low tide... or under rocks. Roll over rocks and use a cultivating tool to scractch around
for them. In the sand, they leave a short trail...

The beach in front of La Ventana's is one of the best clam beaches in the area. Just a little to the north of the condos.

Thanks David K and Bajalou...appreciate the help. My granpa was born in Mexico..does that count? I guess not so we will just be taking pictures.

Dave, Locos Mocos was originated in 1998 when a bunch of guys were scheduled to set up a pit in a Baja race for Ivan Stewart, but at the last minute
were told they wouldn't be needed after all. Undeterred, they set the pit up anyway and fixed ANY racer that needed fixing, no charge. Since then
they've continued to set up free pits of their own, or work with the Baja Pits group. Their efforts have helped a lot of racers get to the finish line
and helped a few non-racers get home. They do it for the karma and just to be in Baja. They refuse any payment for their efforts. They have no elected
officers, no meetings, no rules, no restrictions on who gets to part of the group. Locos Mocos translates into Crazy Boogers.
