good to know

Just got back from a short trip to La Paz.

For whoever maybe interested: After a year of searching for a supplier of 6 volt batteries for a golfcart, I finally located a shop in La Paz who had them in stock. The Quakerstate people on Abosolo, between 5 de Febrero and Legaspy, on the south side of the street. Price for 6 was $94.00 each, no bargain, but not a bad price either.
Also, Barb bought a washing machine, a large microwave and a chest freezer at C.C.C on Abosolo, and , according to her:(, delivery to Loreto is free. Forgot to ask about other locations, like Mulege. Usually, delivery charges do add a bit to the cost of anything you buy in La Paz, so this is good to know.

Ed, my immediate reaction was "Yeah, let's see how long delivery takes!", but then I remembered the owners of CCC also own a large international freight business here in La Paz & has trucks running the length of the peninsula most likely daily...so I squelched my immediate cynicism!:bounce:

There are cheaper places here than CCC to buy appliances (unless they were having a helluva sale!) but the delivery charges would be a killer, so kudos to Barb on her fine negotiation skills!;)

Just took a look at the batteries and didn't see any L-16 sign.
Don't know anything about solar. These state that they are made for golf, marine and solar. I imagine you could call the outfit in La Paz and they'll give you the dope. Several people behind the service counter spoke English.

L16s

You takes what you get. A set of golf cart batteries will serve a solar system just fine for a couple of years. But to get a lot of amp hour storage you gotta have a bunch of them and you might be better off with the real thing....L16s.

We had some L16 Interstate jobbies that were supposed to last 12 years....they went 6. Our latest ones a Surette-Rolls L-16s that have been working for two years very, very well......they need water a lot less than the Interstates....we have only added water about three times in two years. We have 8 in two 24 volt strings with (400AHx2=800 AH of storage.)

The only prob with the Surettes is that they are made in Canada by jerks and they cost a lot.
