Yes, I know what I need, legally, to go past G.N.
I like the idea of a primitive site, too, on Sat night. But I will likely be driving on about 4-5 hours sleep the night before. Driving much off Hwy 1
(after GN shopping, gassing at Vizcaino, dinner, etc.) could mean another long day. The wife will not be a happy camper.  We can make a decision when I arrive in GN.
Still trying to decide what to do after I see Malarrimo on my limited time. Maybe San Borja will be possible since it gets me on the way home. It will
probably depend on the condition of the roads in the Vizcaino.

G. NEGRO ...
It has been almost 2 weeks since I crossed at GUERRERO NEGRO. I know what the rules are ... but I misplaced my BIRTH CERTIFICATE. When we stopped a
lady asked to see my VISA and I told her that I didn't think they were needed if I didn't spend over 7 DAYS in BCS. She said You DON'T have to pay if
you DON'T stay 7 days. She filled out my VISA with my DRIVERS LICENSE .......
I said MUCHAS GRACIAS .....:bounce::bounce:
I am returnong in an 18 wheeler in a few days to TIJUANA. They never get checked for VISAS .....

Cristobal, Sounds like you lucked out on that one.Are you coming on the trip? I came through there about 10 AM 1 day and they did not ask and did not
spray the tires or nothing, I parked just the other side and was waiting for a friend to catch up and was watching the action. They changed inspectors
and at the same time 2 groups of Canadians pulled up and pretended ingnorance of everything, they took down all their info and then made them turn
around and go back to Ensenada. I have talked to others who say they never get checked!
Go figure!

Oh, Baja Spell Checker says there's no A (anymore) in TIJUANA... But he loves the way you capitalize Baja place names!

Malarrimo trip, Oct, 2001:
4 vehicles, GMC Yukon, Ford Explorer, LandRover Discovery and ??? had no problem driving from near San Jose de Castro to within 300 meters of
Malarrimo Beach. Actually, a 2-wheel drive high-clearance pickup could make it.
But you don't want to drive any further than the obvious campsite back from the beach; soft sand, and, down the beach, some quicksand. One of our
troops had a very handy wide-wheel Suzuki motorbike that handled the beach well, but it started to sink on the beach east of the arroyo mouth. A
quad would probably work well, but don't try to drive anything you could not manhandle out of softspots.
The beachcombing was actually disappointing. The beach is littered with plastic and styrofoam.
Weather was wonderful, but breezy.
We will be at our place in Loreto and Punta Final from 18 Oct to 16 Nov, and might rendezous if a specific time/place is established.

Rockman, Thanks for the info, maybe Javier deposited something! Hook and I are going to meet at the Malarrimo resturante sometime on Satruday Oct. 30.
We are waiting on others who have expressed an interest to firm up their plans. I will be coming from Puertocitos so I will be passing Punta Final
early saturday, Butch from Punta Bufeo has also said he would like to come. We could meet at the Punta Final-Hiway 5 intersection or CoCo's or ??? I
was planing on coming to Bufeo on Friday and spending the night there, Corky 1 may also be joining in alomg yhere

MCGYVER ... the key with the spraying is tell them you have someone who is sick in your car and they won't spray.
and .....YES ....I am coming on the trip ... I should be driving an older TOYOTA pick-up hauling my SUZUKI 500 QUAD.
I just wanted the inspector to shake her finger at me ....... or slap my hand or something ........ for NOT having my BIRTH CERTIFICATE ....... just
shows you where the priorities are ..... they just want you to spend some money in BCS .... that is all .....

negociate for Lobster!!!
I have a Taco SR5 4wd with popup camper and I am thinking about towing my Tracker also, mainly for more storage of gas and water and to run around
in after arrival.
What do you think? Do you have the exact milage for the dirt portion from Vizcaino and it condition? Washboard?

Good, recent road report.......
......will be pretty important in helping me make my final decision on going to Malarrimo. Bad washboard is a problem for my wife and I'm not going to
fly over it at 40+mph, unless it's pretty shallow. I'm showing 130 miles or so from Vizcaino, if we take the route thru Tortuga. HOw much of that is
paved now.
I assume this area must have gotten some substantial rains from Javier, so a recent report will be welcome.

Paved Road
The road leaving Vizcaino is paved up to the fork where the left goes to Asuncion and the right goes to Tortuga. That's about 25 miles from Vizcaino
(40 km), I think.

Last time I was there - a couple years ago - road was paved from Viscaino Jct about 20 miles - then the wahsboard begins. Side roads are almost as
bad as the main one - but at 40 it wasn't too bad. Those who wanted to do 20 really got beat up. We turned to Malarimo Beach about 50 miles from the
end of pavement. Still a long way from Bahia Tortuga. Don't hage the GPS coord's but probably can get them if someone wants them. Side note -
stopped for a break coming back out at a spot with a view of the area and found a GPS on the ground. Put in new batteries, reset the contrast and I
still use it as a backup today. Never know what you'll find or where,

Washboard
is worldclass after the pavement ends at the Asuncion/Tortugas split. We were there in early August and shook loose a rear shock. Not finding the
bolt, and lacking a replacement, we turned back our heavily loaded Toy after a few miles.  Will have to try for the beach next time...maybe in October/November.

Hook, I fully understand about your wifes problem with washboard! If you want to cancel don't hesitate on my account! I am very flexable! BoB H. has
expressed interest in a later date in November which would be fine with me if it does not fall between the 15th and 22nd. No one else has commited so
its wide open as far as I am concerned, I am going sometime soon iregardless of anyone else,
BajaLou, I would definatley appreciate those GPS readings, besides, that is my GPS you found!
PM me your location in San Felipe and I will stop and visit when I get back down, I am for sure ready for some Baja time!!
jrbaja, Last year I took the road that runs from Hiway 1 at Punta Prieta NNE to the BOLA Hiway at KM 13 after a big rain, it was so smooth with sand
wash that I was going 70 MPH, that is until I came upon a Boojum across the road. I didn't know those things were so heavey!

Yep,
the arroyos going up to Baja Bamboo were actually smoother than the carretera and like riding on air.
But fallen trees at 70 mph could change things drastically. Ouch ! Cuidado Amigo.

Hi Mac, Wayno here. I have been watching things unfold on here. I am still going on the week of the full moon, 10/ 24th>. Things are divisive here as
you might expect, as it gets closer. Part of my crew is going the following week, to include the prerun for
the 1000, which looks like when you
guys are going. I may come down next week 9/27> and check in with you, to touch bases. I want to go
down and get drunk at San Felipe and Gonzaga. (Full moon again, must be part vampire) Are you going to be around, Tues or Wed?

Sure Wayno, I will be home all day Tuesday and till about noon on wednesday, come on down. As you have read nothing is set in stone except I have to
be back in Yuma before the 18th and cain't go back to Baja till the 22nd, after that I should not have anything for a long time. I was supposed to run
a pit at my entrance road for the race but will not even be able to do that. I guess I better get out and take a ballpean hammer to all the nuts on my
new Taco because I am going, washboard or not.

I downloaded all my early waypoints into the computer and then it crashed, but I am trying to locate the printout I made before the crash. I'll keep
looking but in the meantime it is near 27,32 114,27
The owner of Rancho Santa Monica and her son pointed it out to us. He showed up the next night with a friend and a boat to go fishing with.
Of course, I'll return your lost GPS - it is Brand ? and Model ? and of course you remember the 8 waypoints that were in it.
If I find the exact Wpts, you'll be the first to know.
