Baja lou, Thanks for your efforts, sometimes its hard to locate something even with a GPS, like the airplane wreck in Valle Laguna Seca, I was right on David K's numbers and still almost ran over it before I saw it!
OH!, yes the lost GPS is XXX and the waypoints are *.*x and ,well just give it to me!!

Thanks Max... Although I do not have the plane wreck waypoint listed there, I did make my 'Viva Baja GPS Waypoint List' easier to find... It is now on my front page at http://vivabaja.com right above the maps links.

The 1905 maps that Bajalou made available for us all to enjoy are also added to my front page.

I love maps and looking at a map of Baja takes me there.

The 1962 road maps from the Lower California Guidebook (by Howard Gulick) are really awesome and they are there, too. They are the maps that first guided my parents and I into Baja beginning way back in 1965.

David K., Yes the reason I didn't post it was you gave me that one and another futher north and I didn't know if you wanted them posted, your numbers were right on and I was watching the seconds click off and had not seen any airplane! But there is not much left and after all that rain last year the weeds were 4 foot high, I stopped just before I hit a seat! I have not made it to the other crash site yet but will try on this trip south to Malarrimo to catch it one way or the other.
I like Baja Lou's 3D program too!! Sure wish he would give me my GPS back.:bounce:

World Class washboard?

I dont think fighting that is going to work for me with only a week down there, not to mention the physical effect on my wife. Unless I try flying over the washboard, it appears it could take the better part of two days to cross all that. Not worth it on a week's vacation; will have to wait until I get two weeks or more to attempt Malarrimo. Also not willing to fly across it at 40mph with the Lance on the back.

I guess I'm on the sidelines for now.

Malarimo trip

McGyver; Sorry not to reply earlier but have been out of the loop for a week or so. Spent a week at Lk Powell on the hsbt! We are still going and flexible on dates. Looks like folks are settling in on the first week of Nov ?? I have changed my departure point, will now trailer to GN or thereabouts. Haven't driven south of GN in several years, what do we need to be "legal" besides passports and where is best place to get a visa if needed. Never had to deal with this in the plane ! Will stay in touch and watch posts for final meet up date and location.

I have been in transit .....

Hello guys .... My first posts since SAN IGNACIO .....:bounce:
What a return trip ..... I will write a report soon .....

skipjack joe ..... The paved portion from VIZCAINO to the ASUNCION turnoff is about half of the 106 MILE total .... or 50 miles.
From ASUNCION to SANTA MONICA turnoff is just over 25 MILES of washboard.
SANTIAGO told me SATURDAY that many of the main roads in TORTUGAS are paved
and the NEW road is headed to the ASUNCION hookup but.... probably NOT too far yet .....

MCGYVER ... You know that if you leave it up to me .... we will be eating LONGOSTA every night. Are you guys sure that you can handle that ..?????? Did I tell you that 10 years ago I returned from TORTUGAS with 50 LOBSTERS in my IGLOO ice chest ..??? remind me to tell you that one over dinner one night .... By the way SANTIAGO contributed to my LOAD of 50 that trip.

I think the extra vehicle is a great idea. Something light with GOOD tires is perfect.

The CONDITION of the road past the ASUNCION turnoff depends on a couple of things:
When it last rained....:bounce:
When it was last graded .....:bounce:

EVERYONE involved ..................................

Please bring an EXTRA ice chest or something to keep your own PERSONAL stash of LOBSTERS cold until you can safely store them in your freezer at home. We can arrange to have the proper paperwork taken care of in TORTUGAS.

I don't know about you guys .... but I am starting to get hungry.

:o;D:O:wow::smug::P:P:P:P:P

I dont suppose.....

....I can meet you guys at the Vizcaino junction with my ice chest and then get it from you on your way out????:P

Great! Lobsters are about the only thing that might get my wife over that washboard.

My Proposal

How's about we meet Sunday October 31st in the parking lot of the Malarrino Resturant in GN and proceed from there? It seems that everyone is now flexable on exact date and I am for sure ,so if anyone needs to move it a couple of days we could do that too! Wayno from BBait called me last nite and they left today so maybe we will get a report from them before we go. Hook ,I don't really think the washboard will bother your rig as heavy as you say it is if you air down considerabaly but you know your circumstances, wish you could make it.
I have got all my business concluded as of today( Haloluh!!) and will put the camper on and start loading for Baja and leave Yuma on Monday for Puertocitos to open up my campo for the winter, I have about a weeks worth of work there and then I will be ready to roll!! If anyone wahts to go to San Borga for the celebration there on the 10th of October and spend a few days exploring Guadalupe let me know ASAP because after the 5th my internet time will be limited to the 8th or 9th of October at the Net in SF and then I will be on the road south, I will probably hit BOLA sometime between the 16th and 18th of October for visiting and resuppy and Internet and will get every ones final answer for meeting at GN on Halloween!
Butch: as said you can get FMT at GN, don't bring veggies because they will take them, buy them in GN.Otherwise nothing special.
Christobal: Have you never heard of Lobster Poisioning???:bounce:

Anyone else? grab on this is going to be a blast!!

San Borja

Please spend some time with Jose and family who live there year round. They are not Catholic and do not drink liquor... the fiesta is not a happy time for them because of the alcohol consumed on mission grounds. If you have some school supplies to drop off with them, I am sure it will be appreciated.

Because they aren't Catholic, the new bishop at Guerrero Negro stripped away the mission keys from Jose so he can no longer provide tours INSIDE the mission as he had done for years. He does provide tours of the many other area historic sites, including petroglyphs and pinturas...

David k. , Yep , Polly has already got stuff togather for them and batterys for the radio, last year the only ones I had where in my camera and GPS because we left the MH at BOLA so I gave the boy the ones from the GPS. This year I have a good supply because we have been watching for sales and saving cupons for them.
Is it a good ideal for us to be there during the festival or should we wait till later?
We are going over to Bahia Guadalupe if the lake is dry enough and check out the canyon that runs to the west from the big pink you know what that sticks up just west of the road. (Photo attached) I saw a lot of mountain lion sign last year in there but I still want to check some of those caves, I will bring fire crackers to clear them out!

I think that rock is called La V**** Ha!

The road across the north dry lake past other plane wreck goes into Arroyo Candeleros... and that canyon is beautiful! Even colorblind me could see colors there! http://vivabaja.com/1202

I don't know if you should avoid San Borja then... just expect the entire region to show up, and get drunk!

Although I don't go there,

I'm sure they have benefited from the Mexican governments assistance with solar power.
A battery charger and rechargeables will work way longer and for way less money than depending on batteries.:light:

Butch, I have no ideal, Cristobal can answer both questions I am sure. I have never had a problem finding a place to leave rigs in Baja and have never lost a thing doing so. Are you stateside or Baja now?

There's a restaurant

motel and garage that I'm sure wouldn't mind keeping your stuff safe. Left side of road in Vizcaino. Nasty potholes south of Vizcaino.

MALARRIMO or PUNTA MALARRIMO ...???

As we approach MALARRIMO BEACH from the SOUTH after a 20+ mile run thru the sand from the SANTA MONICA or CASTRO camp TURNOFF ...... the PEAK that ends almost right at the SHORE to the ..... WEST ..... is called PUNTA MALARRIMO. :bounce::bounce:
I am sure we will be climbing it and others close by to take PICS if the FOG clears up in the afternoon. The views of the coastline with an occasional fish camp are the best.

For a few dollars ..... any of the many ranchos in the area .... would be willing to watch your trailer and tow vehicle for you. :o

CASTRO in ..... or TORTUGAS in ....?????

I have never taken the CASTRO route to MALARRIMO ... but have heard many stories that the sand can be very nasty at times .... and to never try it SOLO ...... which we wouldn't be doing ....
On the other hand the road from TORTUGAS is graded often by the COOP to the last fish camp (EL QUEEN) which is at the 18 MILE mark on a total of 35 MILES.
I like the route in from TORTUGAS .... but who am I ...??? I am just tagging along ... trying to have a good time .....:bounce: I will go anywhere .....:bounce:
