An 8 liter motor! Either they don't have a clue about building diesel's or they are going to build one that will also double for pulling a train on the tracks.

Toyota builds great diesel engines, and they are used all over the world, except the US. The tundra will get the same engine that is in the new Land Crusier series in Australia. It is a 4.5l twin turbo V8, and gets about 24 mpg.

You are so wrong. Toyota's Hino division has been making diesel trucks for decades. They just never offered them in the US under the Toyota badge, except in a few Hilux mini-trucks. Canada, yes, they received several diesel Land Cruisers from wagons to pickups.

Note that you can buy a Hino branded truck in the US.

Toyota's overseas engine options supersedes anything made here in the USA. One would be lucky to land any of Toyota's Diesal autos here in the states.
I am restoring a 1972 fj40 and imported a International Diesel from Brazil to put in it. I also jave a FJ60 with a 2F engine. I will eventually convert that engine to a Diesel.
Perhaps with the failing U.S. auto industry we will see better options for auto engines in the diesal category.

Woopy Do, toyota is a great vehicle, but it will take them many years too work out the bugs on DIESEL technology, they don't have that yet, when they do then I will be looking until then. "OH Well" I will stick to my FORD.

If you you drive a Ford then you probably wouldnt know that Toyota has made their passenger auto with diesels for years and has had the international market cornered. The only diesel available in the U.S are for commercial vehicles as in trucks. A tundra is a commercial vehicle so they could skirt the CA emissions laws. Besides the only reason they decided to put the Diesel in the Tundra is because people were asking for them instead of the current gas.

A majority of Toyotas sold overseas are in fact diesel, so to say that they don't have the technology is completely false.

The autos they make trully last the tests of time. From the harshest climate zones in the world(Africa and Middle East) Toyota have been there along with their diesel engines. Besides when was`the last time a Ford or GM anything ever conquered the African continent or Australian outback?

toyota has probably built more diesel engines than ford.

As has been said, you are very wrong. Toyota started putting diesels in their trucks in 76. that was the b/2b/3b/13BT series of engines, which routinely goes without problems to 500k miles. Then the h/2h/12HT series came, which was similarly successful.
The modern engines are the 1HZ, 1HDT and 1HDT-FE series, which are powerful, have extreme longevity and don't use much fuel.
And then of course there is the D4D series, offering anything from a 3 liter to a 4.5 liter twin turbo.
And the above do not cover the commercial engines made by Hino for toyota.

Toyota made successful diesel engines long before ford, and will make them long after ford went bankrupt.

They make the hybrid HighLander. The ultimate would be a diesel hybrid. Now that would be awesome.
