In the San Quintin area I use: TALLER MECANICO GARIBAY, PROP. FELIPE GARIBAY PARRA, CALLE ALDAMA #4 COL. LAZARO Card##AS, PH 5-21-12.
I lost a transmission and Juanita sent me there. That transmission lasted 100k and was still working when I sold the truck. We have sent other
people there and they have all had good reports

That is funny. I had some work done in GN years ago at that place. They even threw in a spare tire. I think the total bill was like 5 bucks.

Best mechanic in San Felipe
Juan Gallo by far. He does incedible diagnostics without the machine. Highly skilled and very reasonable. He also finished 2nd in his class for last
years Code series. Rob

Gerry Gean and Jim Wigginton
we bring our own. Both work for the Bureau of Automotive repair and are regulars on the Baja Boys Baja Vida trips. Jim was a mechanic in the
Navy and Gerry used to own a shop. They provide mobile diagnosis and repair, sometimes without having to get out of the car. And they work of boat
motors.
They have saved us from many a bind.

Turning into an invaluable thread.....
I am cutting and pasting the details into a Word document for future travels.
Couple questions.....
How do we contact Juan Gallo in San Felipe?
Anyone have a recommendation on good mechanics in the border towns? Mexicali.....Tijuana.....Tecate? This could be valuable if you want to cross the
border for some work.
To complete our "networK" of word-of-mouth mechanics, we need ones in:
Santa Rosalia/Mulege area
Loreto area
Ciudad Constitution
Ensenada
Anyone have good experiences in these areas?

San Felipe
Juan Gallo is one block? west of the turist bureau. On the North side of the street. Most mechanics are not in the telephone book as they use cell
phones. I'll try and get the phone no today while I'm in town. There are a couple other very good mechanics here also. In Mexicali, Ivan Pacheco
has done some good work for me. I'll try and get his phne # also.
The site David K listed the other day http://www.geocities.com/bajamecanico
is a site set up to put your recomendations good or bad about mechanics in Baja. If we also posted the info from this thread to that site we'd have a
good online reference one of these days.

ANYONE DONATING TO AARON's Cause
will be recieving The Baja Search and Rescue contact list. It is similar to other publications available but it includes all cities along highway one
and the rest of Baja as well, excluding the border towns.
It also has english speaking contacts so you can actually use the book and phone numbers succesfully.
I believe there are around 500 contacts in the book and they all
participate in Baja Search and Rescue Programs.
This is not available in the U.S. .
PS I do have mechanics in those areas but my comp. died and I'm at a net cafe. When I get mine back, there are excellent mechanics in all those
place. Because of my frequently breaking vehicles and the fact that I spent a year interviewing Police, mechanics and locals regarding honest,
quality mechs. and such, you can also be assured of saving money and having the best of service when you visit the mechs. I have listed.
