Propane lights for top of propane cylinder

Does anyone know where I can find one and also what they are called . I've looked on the internet but must be asking for the wrong thing. All I get is lanterns (like coleman)or propane heaters. I've seen the lights , I know they exist but can't find them. Help please,k:?::?::?:

Walmart, Camping World, REI, if I understand correctly what you want Keri... They are called 'lanterns'... use a mantle... run on propane or gas...

Here is a link to Walmart's:

The hardware store in San Felipe had a somewhat similar light that attached to a 5g propane tank - Great light and much less expensive than the ones using the little cylinders. Check the local ones in your area.

OOPS... I need to read your post more carefully. For some reason I imagined you wanted "tree" to raise the lantern above the tank:?: I'm loosing it!

I have a Coleman lantern same as pictured on my patio, but I hang it off a ceiling beam with a propane hose connecting the lantern to a 5# propane bottle on the floor. I have the lantern lit for some 6 hours an evening, the bottle lasts for months.

The ones I was referring to, are a lantern only attachment - not a distribution tree. Might be a Mexico only item.

You're All Wrong - Here is what Kerri is looking For !

This is why it's soo important to speak Spanish in Baja IMHO...you learn about products from the Mexicans you can't find in the US.

Keri...these lanterns are made and sold by DEPSA...a Mexican Co. that manufacturs and sells propane products.

Here is a link to the Co. website...

http://www.depsa.com.mx/clients/lpg-lamps

Click under "LPG lamps" and look for "Flamineta" lanterns. They are a "direct bolt on" to a 5 gal. propane tank. These lanterns are popular amoung the remote ranches of Baja and they put out about 5 to 10 times more light than the "Coleman" crap we have to put up with here in the US. They are not restricted by our "nanny laws" in US that limit gas lantern output. I have both the 300 and 600 Bujias models at my small ranch. The 600 really throws the light.
I threw away that Coleman junk years ago. I have been using these lanterns at my ranch and in Baja for about 15 years now.

Where to buy them ?

Certain Mexican hardware stores carry them. Ask for "Lanternas de Flamineta". Some can also order them and those that carry them will also carry extra mantles and glass globes. I get my lantern supplies from a hardware store just north of the off ramp from toll road to free road in Tecate.

BTW...DEPSA sells other propane products for home/ranch use. These are also sold at the Mex hardware stores.

O.K. could one of you "technicians" tell me how long my 5 gal propane tank would last using the 16kg unit??? I am lousy at conversions.....

I want to use it on my patio in Los Barriles in lieu of electric lights

I plugged it in and 14kg = 31 pounds. I have no idea what 5 gallon of propane weighs but it just doesn't seem very efficient. I think that there is a misprint there. I just got out one of those 16oz propane bottles and it says 465g=1.02 pounds. Or 28 of those little bottles an hour @ 14kg/hr???
OLIGUACOMOLE ,I remember seeing something like that in Santa Rosalia next to the bank and he owns the store in Mulége too. I think... that's what the squid fishermen use.
I sure hope my figures are wrong! I think I'll keep my ""Coleman" crap "

Maybe they forgot the decimal point ??

0.14 could be the right amount, maybe ??

A 5 gallon tank holds 20 lbs if I'm not mistaken.
By burning 0.14 lbs an hour, that tank would be good for over 142 hrs. Makes sense.

Forget their "specification" printout of consumption...just light it off and once it gets warmed up you adjust it down to get optimum gas/air mix for max brightness. There is a air mix adjuster on the pipe just above the gas valve. A 5 gal. bottle lasts me a couple of weeks easily.

Your going to have better odds at finding the lanterns and related supplies in bigger towns that front large geographic areas where there would be alot of ranchers without electricity and thus the need. For example Tecate and San Quintin come to mind in the north. I say this because about 15 years ago I was staying at Rho. Santa Inez and we had dinner one night in the hall there and the lady lit one of these lanterns on our table. I asked her where she bought it and she told me "San Quintin". Now if El Rosario had them she would have told me but at the time El Rosario was probably not big enough. Even now San Quintin is still the last "big town" to get hardware supplies B4 heading south until you get to Guerreo Negro?

jbcoug...don't remember what I paid...$15-25 range ? I think.

Keri...don't remember ever seeing a 2-headed version. The 600 bujia model has a big mantle and throws the light of about 10 puny Colemans. I built an extension using 1/2" copper pipe and fittings to raise it 7 ft. off the ground. I also bought a 2.5 gal propane tank at HD for portability to use camping.

BTW...a 5 gal. tank burning that light every night 8 hrs. would last AT LEAST 2 weeks and more like 4 weeks...haven't tested that for awhile.
