Escalara Nautica

Bittersweet news on the planned umpteen marinas project. Seems Santa Rosaliita has been spared...kinda.

Anyway, read all about it.

Thank you for posting the article... sounds like there's hope for preservationists.

The writer's effort at correct Baja spelling is terrible, however! It's SANTA ROSALILLITA.... also noted San Quintin, Rosarito and Bahia de los Angeles mis spelled.

Loved the comments about la Salina. At low tide you're lucky to get a panga through the channel. Originally they were trying to sell slips for 50,000+. Now you can get one for 150 a month, or less.

I know a guy there who built a 6,000 ft home who has to run a generator because CFE cut off the electricity to the project. Amazing, but they are still selling lots. They come complete with a "kick me I'm a stupid gringo" sign to tape to your back.

I think pappy had mentioned that the rock jetty in Santa Rosalillita was making a nice little surf break next to it, if that's any positive result of the boondoggle. Nice that they've backed off the other Pacific side projects(for us Seven Sisters lovers).

La Salina abandoned?

This has all the research into spelling and accuracy that I would expect from a mag that caters to individuals who live in an, uh, altered state, shall we say? At least that pretty much sums up the surfers in my neighborhood.

La Salina abandoned? They are about to put a whole new set of floating docks to accommodate the demand that exceeds the first set of docks. All of this at gringo prices. This is not abandonment, according to Webster.

How far would the writer have had to drive below the border to verify this? Maybe one hour?

If the Escalera is truly abandoned as the article claims, I'm left wondering who has pocketed all the money that was earmarked for the project?

Mexico is a perfect milieu for environmental organizations that THINK they have stopped development and govt officials who will abscond with the funding and blame the enviros for halting the project.

It's the Mexican way, no?

As for La Salina being abandoned... last time I drove by there were some cruisers berthed in their slips.

Bernie (former La Salina resident), what do you know about the stupid little harbor?r

So far the only thing that Harbor has been good for, is for drowning people.

Mexican site

Here is the "official" gov't site for this project. The intent was to get a large number of boats down from CA. To just develop the Sea of Cortez side doesn't make sense, as the trip down the Pacific coast is the problem. Who knows? Certainly La Paz, San Jose del Cabo, Escondido are all experiencing rapid growth to accomodate big numbers of vessels. There is some big money being spent on development of huge marinas. Seems like that which is taking place on land is also on the water.

This might be off the sbuject. I was talking with a freind yesterday and he was saying that the check in check out thing is over? He said all you had to do now was check your boat into Mex water and check out when you leave. I guess you pay your opi tax at that time? Please tell me it's so! Cause that whole port captin thing is a pain in the a,,. Seems like every time I go in something is different:?:

Hey Markitos! Hope to see you in La Paz this year. Here is Latitude 38 comment on the ckin/out thing. Also checkout the confiscation of boats in Mazatlan. You do have an import permit?

La Salina

is anything but an abandoned project. It is just going at the usual Mexican pace. True, I lost two friends outside of the harbor there and it can be very dangerous if you are inexperienced with boats.
But, if you can get in to Puerto Salina, the south side jetty has some incredible waves!
