For Capt. Mike... Yikes!

I found this photo on the web. The caption read "Early Morning, Sea of Cortez, Baja Mexico"

Anyone you know?!

Maybe with a new feather lure made from your last Parrot bbq?

Thsoe were the years with out too much Govt. control!
Adventure and taking a risk was an everyday occurance in Baja, small strips were still open with donkies around to dodge on Landing, no VOR,s, just a wiiligness to take a chance and land and take-off from a good spot.

Those were the Days!!!!!

Yes , it has changed, from the first time in 1968 in my Cessna 170 B until a few years later when the Rock Crawlers and Speed boats from the nirth came to Smoke and Drink.
There is still some very good Places to go and Adventure, mainly South of Loreto.
It will be a long time before it gets overrun as it is still very Remote.

I do not really have any thing Bad to say about Baja or its People, only trouble I had was with a couple of americanos who Loved their Money more than Baja!

I could take my little 170 into some real short Strips as well as Beaches, Shrimp was a Dollar a Kilo, on the Pacific, Lobster were $1 each and the people were Great company, learning english and Spanish by waving our Hands and pointing, laughing and just living our Adventures!!

Most of the new Adventures want to "Change the Mexicano People" when they had Hust as soon be left Alone.

It is O. K . To be a "Do Gooder' just make sure that the People you are trying to Change really want it.!!

Good Times are still there, we just have to look a little harder.

As far as changing the Mexican people

Perhaps it would be better if they had the option to create their own income rather than depending on "jobs" working for the gringos that seem to be taking over their land.
This can be achieved by supplying them with the tools and knowledge of how to use them rather then supplying them with $30.00 a week jobs while their land disappears out from under them!
Get it ?:light:

I hope the gringos don't read this. Otherwise they will be demanding their money back. Why buy something when you can just take it?

Get it ? :light:

El Golfo de Sta. Clara

Hose A,
Gulf = Golfo. I live on the border in San Luis, so I get down there fairly often. It's still essentially a sleepy little fishing village, no big hotels or condos yet. Although this may change soon. They are subdividing and selling lots rather aggressively. There are a few drunken gringos on the 3-day weekends, mostly climbing El Machorro in a variety of vehicles, but nothing like San Felipe. You can still cruise down the beach to El Tornillal and beyond and find solitude. The only time I really avoid it is Semana Santa when thousands of Mexicans leave a 6' wide swath of beer bottles, diapers and assorted other trash along the high tide line for miles and miles. For my Mexican friends and employees, this is the time to go. Why? Because that's when everybody goes. What a silly question! You can still get whopper sized shrimp. I'm not sure of the latest prices since to my great sadness I can't eat them anymore, but the "Buffalo Bus" out of Yuma has a "Shrimp and Margarita Run" for I think $25, mostly for seniors who don't want to drive down. Last week the army had to intervene in a confrontation between local fishermen and a bunch from Rocky Point who were establishing a camp south of town. They are allowed to fish and take shrimp in those waters but are spozed to return to Penasco with their catch every day. Prices are up for pangueros to take sport fishermen out, but only because gas prices are so high and they have to run farther out from town now. The last time I went, it was $100 for the day, but didn't matter if it was 4,6 or even 8 guys in the panga. The catch was mostly all triggers and we were halfway to Rocky Point within sight of SF. The Corvina season is winding down now and they are getting smaller.

I saw the photo a while ago and dug it up after seeing that Cessna skimming the Sea of Cortez! Perhaps "Don't Drink and Fly"?? What a lucky shot for the photographer, as chances were slim for the pilot to go around and do it again! The funny part is the two bystanders, probably leaning againt the pickup watching the highly trained pilot land, jumping a mile high!

I see David often and am always happy to see his smiling face as he overflows with Baja facts to put some of us on the right track. I now know him so well that I know his motivation is always to help others to learn about and enjoy Baja.
What I meant was that he has an uncanny ability to call facts, maps, and photos of Baja from his mind without even breaking a sweat.
Me, I know a lot but am rarely able to remember what I know--this makes me doubly impressed with the Baja Connection and I consider him a friend.

Why are you telling me this? I know a lot about age 'cause Don Jimmy and I talked about it a bunch. He used to say that old age ain't for sissy's or something like that, I forget. Oh! ya now I remember what you were talking about. Are you sure that what you said is what you meant to say or were you just trying to be nice? I bet you forgot too.
See you later, Sam.
