Feliz birthday, David.
Keep doing what you're doing..because you do it like nobody else.
Unfortunately..you will be soon at THIS ripe age:
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

Feliz Cumpleaņos, Seņor!
It was almost 10 years ago, that a Amigos de Baja member was trying to talk me into visiting a place called, "Shell Island." David is always good for
a free Pacifico in camp at the end of the day!

Here you are... on Shell Island ~7 years ago in your Ford Ranger. Hotschott and Val were camping with us as well.

The 18th...
THANK YOU AMIGOS!
I had a job on Friday, so we celebrated yesterday... a sunset dinner at the end of the Oceanside pier (Ruby's) on a super great day topped it off.
I sure hope I can continue another 52 years of exploring and sharing Baja Califorinia. The friendships from Baja Nomad far outweigh the negative stuff
and I encourage you all to continue having fun and adventures in Baja!
VIVA BAJA EVERYBODY!

I was thinking it was the summer of 2002... perhaps as early as summer 2001?.. Here's my truck (an '01) that same day (it was on Shell Island for the
first time in Jan., 2001).
That was the trip that Robert Hoyt was with us, who owns the Mag Bay sport fishing business run by his parents.

David,
You're right - it was Summer 2001 - Early August I believe. Suzanne and I were married in April of that year. I pulled a mini-trailer that I'm
getting ready to sell ($100) and Suzanne and I were traveling Baja before heading back to Michigan where her poor Grandfather was in hospice. We
traveled to the Sierra San Pedro Martir after this quick trip with you and HotSchott where my Tranny blew out. Suzanne and I hitched a ride back to
the EEUU, she flew back to Michigan, I blew my airline ticket, and Tim Sanchez loaned me his trailer to bring the tired Ford Ranger back to the EEUU.
In hindsight, I should have left the rotting Ford in the forest.

I have some pics, but unfortunately not enough.
I had to coordinate a recon mission for my truck that was stuck in the Sierra San Pedro Natl Park. All of our new Coleman camping gear was stolen, my
new hiking boots, etc. My fear was that the thieves would return for the pickup and start parting it out, although the fire fighters were stopping by
daily to look after my things.
My friend Andrew (now passed away) drove down from San Jose, CA - my other friend Dan Wilson (now living in S. Florida) drove out from Palm Springs.
I covered their expenses and we drove everything back (on flatbed) from 8K ft. Elev.
On our way down the mountain, a rock blew out one of Tim "Desert Bull" Sanchez's trailer tires. This caused the rim to be completely destroyed, and
the steel cords from the tire wrapped around the axle housing, causing us to not be able to pull the wheel off of the trailer axle.
Locals in San Telmo de Abajo got the job done for a small price.
Suzanne's Grandfather a WWII Veteran and a 100% Great Guy unfortunately passed away while I was pulling recon duty on my pickup. Her and I had been
married about 3 1/2 months prior to all of this happening.
The following Spring, she became very sick - she could not eat anything for weeks, began losing weight, began losing her hair, and then started
passing out wherever she went. She had to stop working, and after passing out while on her way back from the grocery store where she was buying more
baby food to eat, her Doctor explained that she had to be admitted, where she was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus. After nearly dying at this point, we
realized this was her last summer in the sun. She really enjoyed this trip with David K and everyone, but had to lock herself indoors and trips to
Baja were not quite the same again.

Happy Birthday DK!
I'm betting the next 8 years will be much better for you than the prior 8 years. Catch you down the road.

Wow, Ken, that is a tragic story, for sure. Poor Susanne, and it must have really been hard on you, too------possibly explains a lot that I was
wondering about.
