Just a change of pace to wish everyone a Happy Halloween tomorrow... We get lots of the village kids here and it's always fun to see them in their
costumes.
The kids were really great this year, lots of vampires, devils, and the young ladies were dressed in "evening attire". At 6:30pm, we ran out of
goodies, had to make an emergency trip to Chapito's market. We have had over 75 kids so far. I would like more to come, as I don't want to have to eat
this candy.
We had lots of kids for years but so far (7pm) not any? Must be the parents are scared of this street. The gringo who lived a few doors down was
caught with a lot of child porn a few weeks ago.
We had over 100 kids come to the door. Our security brought groups to the houses that were giving out candy. Groups were anywhere from 10 to 30 or 40
at a time. It was fun. Ran out of candy and turned off lights to let them know.
Mulegemichael and I got all dressed up yesterday. Captain Hook busted out the back of his jacket when he put it on. He was wearing a Baja t-shirt
under it, so the map of Baja sort of acted as a treasure map. He broke his sword on the road trip down here, but I scored two popsicle sticks, so it
was an easy fix with some duct tape. He tried on his eye patch, but kept getting the elastic over his other eye. All in all he looked pretty
dashing, and managed to get a few yelps out of the kids that came by last night. Honestly, we had maybe a dozen kids this year, compared to hoards of
them last year. Very sad. The river road from town to the Orchard no longer exists due to Jimena, so that probably had lots to do with it, but we
heard the churches in town lectured the kids and parents that Halloween is the work of the devil, so we don't know. An organization up north donated
about a hundred top quality jump ropes to us, and we have been passing them out in town whenever we see kids. Probably hand out the balance today.
Mulegemichael is Santa down here (I am his elf, 'cause Mrs. Santa is always old and fat, not the image I am looking for), so the mountains of candy
bars will be put back in with the Christmas candy, stored in the frig in the garage. Out of sight out of mind. Just have to watch out for the late
night mumchies!
.....we live in the Oasis, further from town, but you Mulege peeps know the Orchard is pretty much toast, at least the first two rows closest to the
river.
Last night we were gathered at the home of Redmesa...a gaggle of snow birds and snacking on grmpb's tuna sashimi when all of a sudden we were invaded
by about 20 kids of all sizes in fantastic costumes singing and yelling and jumping about. It was hilarious...none of this 2 by 2 or small
groups....all the kids who were allowed out came in a throng.
The church here frowns on halloween as satanic as well but our gal Lizbet organized a kids costume party in a salon and the whole gang caroused around
Campo Sirena...good thing gringos have candy!!!
This year we had more little kids (their first Halloween) than before and very few teens... The costumes were all real good, new and fun. We were
surprised that not one was in a Michael Jackson costume (reported to be the most popular this year). Unfortunately, not as many kids as I expected so
there is far too much candy still in the bowl that must be consumed!!!
Great fun to make the big gruff men jump, but the finest compliment
was a little boy who, after being startled, peered up at me and asked,
"Are you real?"
Go figure. I wasn't wearing a mask.
Guess I looked like a real-live dead guy, huh?

Overwhelming irony. If it weren't for satan [?] the church wouldn't exist.
Oh gosh Dennis, this might call for a Noche Buena discussion that might last over 30 min. or so. Some say that Satan was an invention of the "church".
Some might say that satan was copied from thousands of years of cultural mythology, that he was an adaptation of gods such as Hades.
Tis the season, when the NB hit the shelves, buy a couple of cases for me, I'll pyb, and we can have a good talk.
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
