Uh - rah!

My dad did 30 years as a US Marine. Retired in 1985 as a Master Gunnery Sargeant.

He is afraid of Baja, though...something to do with TJ in the 1960's??? Guess it wasn't a good place for a Marine back then.

He did make it down to my wedding in Cabo a few years ago, though, didn't stay long!

It wasn't as accurate as the M-1 I had before it, but I could still put 8 out of 10 in a pie plate at 500 yards.

Happy Birthday Jarheads.....

I had a M14 when I was in, but it was much better looking and only shot blanks. (rifle detail). Happy 234th!

When I commanded the state (Nevada) Marksmanship Unit
of the Nevada Military Dept, our rifle team, using national match, tuned M-14's could put rounds into the 8, 9 and X ring consistantly at 1000 yards.....with iron sights

Baja guy...different targets. Our bull was a five...a 20" dot, the "tie-breaker" was a 10" white ring in the middle. With iron sights the 20" bull was about half the width of the front sight blade at 500 yds.

USMC Far East Div. Rifle and Pistol Team 1963 (Camp Schwab)
Western Div. Pistol Team 1964 (Pendleton)

I never shot an M-14 in competition.

Jeez Louise, is it Medicare that causes all this reliving past glories???

The best part of all...I was never asked to shoot at a human.

Maybe I'll stay up another hour and ten minutes and light a cherry bomb...........................and spend the birthday in jail.:P

Happy Veterans Day, everyone. My father (a Vietnam vet) always calls me to remind me on this day to remember those who have fought, and died, to protect a fragile idea, called democracy.

We will celebrate Veterans Day on Saturday the 14th in the South Campos Community Center. It will be attended by former members of all branches of the US military and Jose Castro, a former member of the Mexican Army. Happy Veteran's Day to all that have served.
