Vintage Fishing Photos
I ran across a few old fishing photos. Hemingway posing with a fine tuna. Also a fishing crew from the 30's showing some style.

If I may, I'd like to add a few vintage photos as well.
These are from my grandfather's baja era. 1940s
There were a lot of snappy dressers in this crew...I would think that in today's times if you stepped out on the dock sporting swim trunks hiked up
over your belly button and a white captian's hat you'd be flogged.
Again, dress slacks, belts and dress shoes....my grandfather is front and center in this photo. the gentleman on the right with the white shoes is the
same man holding the fin in the previous photo.
My grandfather's best friend, Andy Anderson, in the 40s...
Andy again in 1956. Same style of fishing attire, white shirt and khaki slacks. I have Andy's and my grandfather's fishing poles hanging in my dining
room. As you can see in the photos, the Penn reel was built into the butt, an all in one fishing combo.
Every once and a while my grandmother would join the crew. Here she is with her prize fish.
Dern's Great Grampa Charlie collecting lobsters in Estero Bay, 1950s era.
You can see Punta Banda - Cantu in the background in this shot.
Ensenada Ling, Dern's mom on the left.

Wow, I wish my family history went back that far to Baja....Well I guess I have to stick to what I know....Timber and sawmills.

where is Las Cruces in baja??
the old Hotel Cabo San Lucas is an icon.
i used their private strip in 1981 but didn't stay there 'cause it was too far north of town at like 5 miles. plus expensive when the Mar de cortez
was $35 a nite smack in the action.
formerly Ordained in Rev. Ewing\'s Church by Mail - busted on tax fraud.......

Mike,
Las Cruces is in the La Paz region, north of Punta la Gorda. My grandfather was a frequent flier to Baja in the 40s through the 60s. Our family has
reel to reel films of his trips, the streets of La Paz still dirt, children running along the shoreline sin clothing. The good old days on good old
film that will someday rot away just as fast as old baja has.

reasonable to have it done, I believe.

Mike it's on the La Paz 052 degree radial where it hits the shoreline across from Cerralvo. On CH22 it's called "Palmillas".

I will ask my mom about them. She has them in storage at her ranch in Texas.
I remember sitting on the couch in my grandparent's library, listening to the clicking sound of the movie projector. My Papa would give commentary to
the sights, huge billfish jumping behind the cruisers. One memory I have stuck like glue is of the one billfish that marched on it's tail all the way
to the stern and almost stepped into the boat. It was that close, my Papa would laugh about it, so hard, then slap his knee.
I definately will ask my mom about them, maybe she can ship them to me so that I can transfer them to digital.

I do hope you get the photos to save. With the wonderful world of photoshop, I have been able to scan and "repair" some old slides and photos. My
printer/scanner also has a holder for film strips---but if the film is brittle, probably better to take it somewhere---money well spent.
And thanks for the memory of papa---one of fondest childhood memories is sitting and listening to my grandpa's stories---never grew tired of them.

These are not in the same class as those posted above by Ken and Paulina, but they are from over 30 years ago, when I first started flying to Baja. I
have to admit I cringe at these old "fish hanging" photos. I loved fishing then and readily participated, but now I simply can't bear the thought of
killing anything, particularly the sail and the roosters in the second photo. At least we ate the jurel  .
This is from San Francisquito in 1978. My son Dirk is on the right (he's now pushing 50, how time flies), my father-in-law/adopted father Bud (gone
for years now) on the left.
This is from Rancho Buena Vista in 1975. I am the one in the red shirt, second from right. Apologies to billfish and roosterfish everywhere.

I'll mention that to him shari . He's in his late sixties now and probably
doesn't wear them any more, but he will be flattered that you noticed.

yes - put those old home movies on DVD. it is cheap to do.
they'd be a blast to watch.
