Nice Thanksgiving weekend everyone?

I hope it was good for all of you!

We had family here and lots of great turkey and side dishes!

I was hoping to add this to the Happy Thanksgiving thread I statred on Wednesday, but that was moved to 'Off Topic'?

I believed the posts about Baja or Baja Nomads was a General Discussion catagory, and it was about Baja Nomads, naturally...

Anyway, I was entertaining family the past three days... and eating (like I need to do that)!

Have a great day... and GO CHARGERS!:light:

to make this relevent to baja...we enjoyed a wonderful thanksgiving dinner with many friends here in Asuncion....a multicultural event that was neat as our mexican amigos and family got to try some of our traditional foods like cranberries...smoked ham and turkey of course...yams with pecans, homemade dinner rolls etc.

The other cool thing was introducing them to the potluck...buffet style of eating which is very different from their style of serving everybody the same plate of food whether they like it or not. We explained that each person had to prepare thier own plate...everyone could just take what they like or sample a bit of each...it was a hard sell but they eventually did it and liked the food.

I was nice to share our culture with them as they always share so much of their cultural activities with us....we were all thankful of being together.

Yes David I had a wonderful day. I had thoughts of Baja California during my Thanksgiving dinner. I wish I was there now!

Had Thanksgiving Day down at our Beach House (below San Felipe), great weather the whole time (11 day trip), maybe a little wind a few days but not obnoxious. It rained last night pretty hard around midnight. Crossed Tecate this afternoon, hour and fifteen minutes. Had late lunch at the Barrett Cafe just below Tecate on I-94. Baby back ribs and a smoked pork sandwich, pretty good.

Haven't had a bad trip yet....

Thanks, it was nice... first time away from the "family" on a Thanks Giving day.

Had the meal at the El Pescador restaurant in El Pescador. It was a very good turkey dinner with all the trimmings.

The only problem was there was not the usual amount of food one has on "turkey day".. Is and always about just what David K posted "eating" for days and days.. Food is just all over the place.. Pies, cake, oh, my....

Well while I was eating my turkey dinner and talking to my wife about all the food she puts out, I got hungry.

So, after the turkey dinner, I had my waiter bring me a Mexican dinner.. At first he was confused, then I started talking to him about Christmas dinners... and then it all made sense to him..

He just started laughing and said Mue Buneo !! and off he when to get me: Taco's Carbon, cheese enchilada, chili reno (could not get a tamale, he told me next month) bean and rice, plus chips and salsa.

I had a couple of cokes, as I was on med's big time, did a header off the steps in this stupid house (and up to that point I had not had a drink), but that's another story.

My wife and I really enjoyed our selves, and the folks that served us were just super. And liked the fact that I ate a Mexican dinner on Thanks Giving.. I told them that is what I always eat on Thanks Giving, and then explained about my wife and her family and the rest and we always end up with everyone happy and toasting..

To close, David K, thanks for asking, and sharing your day and family with us… hope you and yours are all well.
:):)

Hey DK-

We went to the Christmas Celebration at Rancho Guajome today up in your neck of the woods. It was wonderful with Native American story-telling, Mexican Charreria, hay rides, and all sorts of free activities for the kids ranging from candle making to corn husk dolls. The old adobe was also decorated and a delight with all the docents on hand to explain the history. Thanks to the County of San Diego for providing this free event at the park.

Zac

Glad you had a good one David.

My crew and I got out to Superstition mountain for some sand riding on quads, rock crawlin in the Jeep, Fourunner and Samurai and high speed wash runnin (Carrizo and San Felipe). Makes it fun when you take the young guns!

Wish it could have been Baja, but one hell of a good time in the dirt.

No worries

Ah, finally 4 days off in a row. My neighbors in La Mision put together a feast. Ham, turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, corn bread with fresh honey butter and the list goes on. Topped off with some Casa De Oro tequila and a glorious sunset over the Pacific! Almost looked as good as one of Russ's photos. Flat as a pancake, with deep colors. Fished on Friday and got blown off the water early. It poured and blew all day Saturday so I serviced 5 bait casting reels and looked out at a very angry ocean all day. A sail boat had to be rescued after losing its rigging from the wind in front of La Fonda. A Coast Guard helicopter and plane were circling the boat about a 1/4 mile off the coast. On the radio I heard them set up a fuel drop, as their kicker outboard was about out of gas. I watched it all unfold with binocs from the backyard. Well, that gas got them to within a mile of the marina. The Flying Lucy needed more help. The manager at the Marina La Salina jumped into their inflatable and headed out into 15 foot seas with 30 mph winds to tow them into a hairy entrance to the marina in such conditions. It was nice to hear the CG, the marina manager, and the skipper of the Flying Lucy work so well together. That skipper sure had something to be thankfull for! A birthday party for my brother-in-law that night was a kicker for the weekend. Birria and shrimp kabobs, and more tequila. Sunday my wife threw together a great breakfast. Then, of course, the dreaded drive home. A great weekend!! I hope everyone else enjoyed their's as well! Thank you for asking David.:tumble:

We always get out whether it's a ride on the quads like we took to the sulphur mine with our new neighbors or a ride on the jet ski's to the Lighthouse and back up to Bahia Santa Maria and back home again (like we did on a very warm day) or over to the community center for a craft fair. We socialize quite a bit too plus helped "BajaRob" move some newly acquired furniture from the sellers house to his. And of course any trip wouldn't be complete without a drive out to Shell Island with my sweetie.

This trip though I came down with a cold the day before I left for Baja and had to cancel my plans to spectate the race with "Steekers" because the wind would be too cool in the afternoon and early evening. I managed to do some projects at my house though and felt good enough to eat all the good fixings my wife prepared for Thanksgiving Day.

So no, we rarely hang out, we're always on the go. This was an 11 day trip which is rare for me, I only get about 3 of those that long a year.

Got lucky on the Tecate crossing, they opened up the commercial side, otherwise it would have been a brutal wait. Sorry, no photos to share.

Yes, Thank you David K. We went with many family members to have Thanksgiving in San Felipe. Except for my husband and I, none had been to Baja before. Everyone had a great time and not one person was..caught in crossfire, kidnapped, robbed by banditos, hassled by crooked cops or eatten by Chupacabras. I think we may have created a few more Baja fans.

Whenever I hear that rainy, chill wind blow. I think it may be time to head for Mexico. Tengo que obedecer mi corazon!
