Mulegé soprano seeking support for opera training in Italy
Carla Acosta Villavicencio is a young Mulegina soprano who has a partial scholarship to attend a high-level singing course in Italy this coming
January. But she needs help to get there and living expenses.

Thanks for the link to Carlos. He is in La Paz now setting up a non-profit organization regarding Carla. He emailed me the correct info for making a
donation toward Carla's expenses, which I happily did. I am so pleased to see one of Mulege's own getting out there. Such a good example for the
other kids. Hope.

This woman has talent that rivals big city diva's.
Mulege is so lucky to produce dedicated and focused students who can go on to compete in the big leagues. From boxers to baseball players and
neurosurgeons to diva's I am constantly impressed at the level of drive here amongst Mulege's young.
A donation to her spaghetti fund will allow you to say, truly, you are a patron of the arts (and if you hear her sing you'll know that you nourished
her voice in some small way).
Kudos to Beachgirl's generosity.

Further Details on the Christmas Concert
The local group Distrito 13 and Carla Acosta Villavicencio will be performing a concierto navideño (christmas concert) at the Misión Mulegé on the
20th beginning at 6 pm.
The concert is free, but it is hoped that money can be raised through donations to add to Carla´s fund for her studies abroad.
Please come and enjoy the music and experience Carla´s talent in person.

IT"S ON...Concert at the Mission Sunday at 6
After some band wrangling the concert is definitely on Sunday night. Those of you lucky enough to hear Carla practice know what you are in for
(goosebumps, tears, and smiles).
Show up early, around 5 would be my guess, with some c-cktails and appetizers for the tail-gate party before the concert and a chance to get a seat.
Gringos, bring some cash, checkbook, or be prepared to write down the bank details for a wire to Carlos Milon. You don't get many chances in life to
be a direct patron of the arts. Carla may become the arts ambassador for the Baja, if not all of Mexico.

Carla's concert at the Mission was dream-like. Such a voice with an appropriate setting, they couldn't do it better in Rome.
Her are a few Youtube links of her recent performance in La Paz and one of her practicing at the Hotel Terrazas in Mulege (two hours a day to keep the
pipes in shape). There are more links on Youtube if you would care to look.
More video from her Mulege Mission 2009 concert will be uploaded soon. She could be a serious draw for the Italians who so love the weather here.

The following is a story about to be published in the Italian papers, with photos - The applause starts before she gets off the plane
This story is one of fantasy, a dream born years ago, something that could not be true, something when you dream of it puts you peacefully to rest.
It is a story of a young girl from the little town of Mulege and a young boy from Aguascalientes. Both towns in the great country of Mexico.
Carla Gabriela Acosta Villavicencio, a grand name certainly, and Jorge Aguilera, from a fine and distinguished old Mexican family, both wanted to sing
as children. They both had a muse to be sure. At a tender young age they began their training. It took them finally to the Conservatorio de Música de
"Las Rosas" in Morelia city, Michoacán, the training ground for the most talented young Mexican singers. It is the best place offered in all of
Mexico, a country in love with music and culture.
They met there and shared a dream of singing Opera and a love of things Italian. Puccini played out from their windows and filled the courtyard of the
school with drama and song.
They studied hard all the subjects that were offered to them. English, French and certainly Italian were languages they strived to speak and to sing.
This dream was just a prelude, a glimmer of the things that might come.
This dream was a little seed that found good soil with family and friends to care for it’s fragile beginning. It was a wonderful thing and made all
the people that knew them very proud.
When their studies at the Conservatorio were completed, Carla and Jorge came back to little Mulege, and in the 300 year old Jesuit mission, in candle
light, sang from their hearts such a concert that even people as far away as La Paz where very proud.
After a most horrible hurricane that washed the roof from Carla’s house out into the sea of Cortez, and made Jorge hide his face in his hands to cry.
There was so much devastation, so much sticky smelly mud, dead horses in trees, a most angry God; so much destruction and suffering that they could no
longer afford to dream dreams.
But nothing could kill the dream. And the dream became new and so much more grand. They might, no, not possible, if only they could, how hard can you
dream; be considered for acceptance to the prestigious and most exclusive school of the Academia, the school of Puccini. Could such a thing happen?
And yes, such a thing did happen and this distant dream became a reality.
They will enter the Academia in January to be the best students that have ever been. In their hearts they bring with them the pride of all the Mexican
people. All the sad families of Mulege no longer wear long faces as this milagro has lifted them as nothing else could. Two of their own will go to
Italy and everyone knows the story. All the children hope to be Divas.
But this little tree of a dream needs more water and love. It’s hoped that they might, just on Sunday, eat a little Osso Bucco, maybe try Wild Boar
with olives, but of course pasta is just fine.
Maybe they could find a place with good beds and other students to help with their Italian.

The people of Posada and Los Cocos were entertained by a surprise visitor at the main palapa at Posada on Christmas eve ...Carla came to visit family
and was persuaded to sing a few songs for us at our caroling party. What a treat
it was for all of us:
