LOST DOG - Punta Prieta/Chapala Area
Please help us find our dog! There was an accident on Sunday, January 3rd around 2 pm at KM 224 1/2 on highway 1, 55 km north of the Bahia Los Angeles
turn off at Punta Prieta. Our dog was inside the van that rolled and when he got out he ran off into the desert and we were unable to find him after
searching hours and days.
His name is Pickle. He is a tan lab/great dane mix. He is very friendly, but I'm sure very scared. He was wearing a collar with a tag that had our
numbers on it; both U.S. and Mexico. He was last seen by a witness, running west into the desert at km 224 1/2.
The reward is currently $300 usd, but I am willing to do what it takes to get back my sweet boy.
If anyone has seen him or knows of anything, please let me know.

What town / landmarks are near KM 224? I'll be driving south later this month and will look for him. He looks like a survivor.

Sorry, I forgot that part. I just edited that.
It was 55 km north of the Bay of LA turn off at Punta Prieta. Nothing around. No services. No cell phones. Worst part of the Baja to have an accident.
I would imagine he could be anywhere at this point. Maybe he found a ranch?

I am so sorry that you've lost your dog! I know how devastated I would feel if I were in your shoes! I wish you the best of luck in getting Pickle
back.
Have you posted this on some of the other baja websites? Like the online sites that the off-road racers visit? Try posting on Baja.net,
Race-Dezert.com, ThumperTalk.com (in the Baja section), Advriders.com also has quite a few riders from baja.
If I think of any more, I'll post them. The more people who are aware, the better!!

I have posted on other Baja websites, but not the off-road ones. That is a great idea and we'll do that asap.
We do feel like we've lost a child. I just can't imagine what that would feel like.

There is hope... In 2003, on our way to Mision Santa Maria we came across a dog along the road, 12 miles east of Cataviņa... and no owners. It was
'Inky', an older 'Baja' dog adopted by gringos, from Todos Santos... With a tag and phone number... She had run off while the owners were camping
along Hwy. 1, north of Cataviņa, heading to their U.S. home... we later found out.
Hope you can be re-united with your pet!

Make a "wanted" poster in English on one side and in Spanish on the other. Use a color photo and indicate reward. Include both Baja (if you can) and
US phone numbers
Flood highway 1 with the posters at all stores, gas stations and houses, phone poles whatever....get his photo and the posters out.
Try and get the posters to delivery people (water, propane, soda, beer and bread truck drivers) the police and any fire departments.
Leave posters at any houses or ranchos in the area
Also paper BOLA and the hotel at the junction
Don't forget to leave posters....(and soda, candy and cookies) at any military checkpoint you come to.
The best way to find a lost pet is to get the word out to Everybody

Very sad. I feel your pain. In August I rolled my car at KM 247, not far from you. Had my dogs in the car also. We were all ejected but by some
miracle were not badly hurt. Moby had a broken pelvis and two broken ribs and Lucky had no scars at all (the name must work!). I was unconscious on
the ground and when a mexican woke me up I remember seeing Lucky racing across the desert chasing rabbits! Anyways, long story. Four months later and
we are all pretty much healed up. I'm driving down tomorrow and I'll be building a little memorial on the spot so I'll be there a few hours with my
dogs. We'll see if they can find their Baja cousin. We've all seen dogs survive as they trek across the desert. They quickly learn to find what they
need. Best wishes.

Amy, I am so sorry about your accident and the loss of your Pickle. I hope that someone finds him soon and returns him to you. I know that you both
must be scared and I will keep you both in my thoughts. Please keep us posted.

We're leaving Seattle for Baja this weekend. We will stop and let our dogs out in the general area of where your dog was last seen. We had a relative
loose a hunting dog in Oregon for over a month. After the relative had given up all hope of finding the dog, we took our dogs to the area and sure
enough in less than an hour all 3 dogs showed up at our motorhome. Needless to say his dog had lost a few pounds, had bloody feet etc but was
amazingly healthy. Our dogs had never met the relative's dog but dogs seem to attract one another. Our dogs (golden retriever and australian shepherd)
have no special skills but if your dog is in the area maybe he'll follow ours home for a good steak dinner.. We also lost a prior dog for over two
months when it took off in a thunder and lightning storm. After 9 miserable weeks he was returned to us by a wonderful family that found one of our
many flyers. Keep the faith- you have many many dog lovers praying for a happy ending. Ron and Patty

What a bummer. There is hope tho. My dog was dognapped or ?? in Mulege. I spent the better part of a week trying to find him to no avail. I then
posted around town a bunch of flyers with his picture and offered a $50 reward.
Within 2 days a fellow called and said he found him down at Stanispac running around. That's 15 miles south.
If you can get a poster like that put them around Catavina, the Bola turnoff and El Rosario, Carmelitas', the Pemex, and the GN checkpoint you might
strike paydirt. Perhaps a Nomad heading south could help you to get some put up.

Thank you Nomads for your inspiring stories and prayers. I am trying to keep up the hope.
I have given a flyer to several people who have offered to help, but not sure that any have gone up yet.
I feel so helpless.
Every message helps me to keep the faith. I just keep waiting for that 1 message or phone call that Pickle has been found.
