It is dismaying that a thread which began with what I would consider to be a quest for the truth, devolves into something so wrong. Maybe fishy had a couple too many beverages of his choice, when he posted the apparently hurtful thingy. Personally, I would have looked forward to this quest for information playing out. But it now seems to me that it will not occur. :barf:

They sound more like a co-ordinator service to me. What is their comparison of services VS SkyMed?

AAA Facts

Sorry to get this thread on track..........

I stopped by the local (Carson City, NV) office of AAA today and obtained some information on the evacuation insurance and other traveler services that AAA offers its members through the enhanced “Plus” and “Premier” roadside service plans.

Emergency 24 hour Traveler Assistance – Worldwide - AAA can assist with medical referrals, legal referrals……emergency messaging, emergency reservations and cash transfers

Trip Interruption Coverage – If the members road trip is delayed and results in at least one overnight stay at a hotel, AAA will provide up to $1000 for Plus and $1500 for Premier members insurance coverage for additional food, lodging or alternate transportation.
You must be on a road trip 100 miles or more from home to qualify.
Coverage is limited to auto travel anywhere in the continental United States,Canada or Mexico.

Motor Vehicle Return Coverage – If the member or traveling companion cannot complete a trip due to illness or injury, AAA will pay up to $500 to get the members car home.
You must be on a road trip 100 miles or more from home to qualify.
Coverage is limited to auto travel anywhere in the continental United States, Canada or Mexico.

Repatriation of Remains Coverage – in the event of a fatality, AAA will pay up to $5000 to repatriate a member’s remains.

Emergency Medical Evacuation – Worldwide – If the member becomes sick or injured, AAA will reimburse up to $25,000 for emergency evacuation. This may include air ambulance, transportation home for dependent children and/or spouse, and if traveling alone, transportation of the person of their choice to join them.
You must be on a road trip 100 miles or more from home to qualify.

I would suggest that if you are interested in learning more about these services, you contact your local AAA office.

I just don't understand any of this. I've been reading this board for some time. There are a whole herd of Nomads who have insisted that the Mexican medical system is just as good, or superior, to the US. What kind of an emergency did this poor man have that he could not be treated in La Paz or Cabo San Lucas? He could have been in a hospital in either city hours before a Coast Guard plane could have picked him up and flown him all the way to Yuma.

Does this mean the U.S. Coast Guard has made the decision that the Mexican medical system is so deficient, and the Mexican doctors so lacking in ability, that the only alternative is to spend $100,000 to fly this man out of Baja.

Where's BajaGabacho or that longlegged person to explain this conundrum?

My two centavos

We belong to Divers Alert Network(DAN). For less then $200 per year our family of four can be evacuated from anywhere in the world. It does not have to be diving related. A few years ago a friend was flown out of Loreto and DAN paid to have the airport open at midnight for the flight.

I cannot believe that this started all over again by starting a different thread. I went through all of this regarding Binational Emergency Committee/Celia Diaz...and AAA Plus. I also gave the information regarding the U.S. Coast Guard picking up a U.S. Citizen in Mexico....only as a last resort!!!!

Am I invisible here? I check and double check my information. I went all through this last week and posted it here. My life depends on the information I obtained and passed on here. I DO NOT GIVE ERRONEOUS INFORMATION ! My own life may depend on it. I am now on the road. I am confident with my information.

If you do not want to accept my correct information, and would rather have this deteriorate into another stupid, cranky b-tch session, then you are all on your own. Why are you asking questions here and then turn around and get nasty with each other. What a bunch of crap!

Go make your own phone calls and do your own research and stop bothering us with bullcrap! Find another hobby that is more in keeping with your Intelligence level. Oh, I forgot...this is it.

For Arrowhead:

Regarding the evacuation by the Coast Guard last week was from Gonzaga Bay.....the only Mexican hospitals within 200-250 miles are in Mexicali, Ensenada and Tijuana. Yuma, El Centro and San Diego are just as close.

The Mexicans, also, don't have an evacuation capability as the USA does. The evacuation from Gonzaga Bay last week by Helo was made necessary by the weather....it was below minimums for fixed wing aircraft. Only a Helo could get into and out of Gonzaga Bay. There are only about 10 days a year like that there.

Gonzaga Bay also is not a "retirement" community as some on this page who criticized the event last week couldn't get through their thick heads.....it's a remote fish camp at the end of a very bad (probably worst in the world) "road." The houses there are almost all owned and occupied by pilots....mostly Baja Bush Pilots.

We have been flying in and out of there for 35 years and we regularly have carried inured and sick people out. Some of us also carry The Flying Samaritans to the clinics they service throughout rural Baja all the time....these are physicians, dentist and nurses who donate their time to treat people in remote Baja....there is one such clinic at Catavinia near us......the terrain is such that the clinic is a 3-4 hour drive away...but only an 8 minute flight.

People who are not injured seriously and who don't have their own airplane....or access to one owned by a friend...usually drive to a clinic at El Vigel or to San Felipe....that drive can take from 3 hours to 6 hours depending the skill of the driver and the capability of the buggy or truck. Luckily we have some firemen and EMTs who have camps near by. They regularly help with the injured and assess their need for help.

There are a great many such camps on the East coast of Baja. They are nothing like the Gringo expatriate retirement communities further south and at the tip of Baja.

It would be of great help to everyone if the motor mouth pseudo experts and stink bomb throwers who use this forum to escape boredom would understand what is really going on before they started making accusations and asking pointed and unfair questions about evacuations such as the one last week. The ones who made the most unfounded commentaries reside about 500 miles south of Gonzaga Bay and know very little, if anything about places like it is.

Maybe because when one is in the middle of an infarction, one doesn't bother to inquire as to the political party affiliation of the EMT?:?:

:lol::lol::lol: I read it, I read it Brother Tony. Now I can't find it! Something about you being a member of something and the name Celia came up, etc. Where is your post. Can you post it in here or do I have to taser you Bro!

This is a reminder that Binational Emergency Committee is a very worthwhile service. I am registered with them. The name of the woman who runs the service is Celia Diaz. Her phone # is 619-425-5080. She is in Chula Vista, CA and is well connected with all emergency services in Baja.

You should have some form of membership in an emergency air transport evacuation company. I have AAA Plus which includes air evacuation from Baja, but it is a reimbursement insurance. I must cover the initial emergency pick up with my credit card. You must have that at least $25K available in your credit limit to use your cc.

Celia Diaz has all my emergency contact numbers in the U.S. and Baja, my cc # and my AAA Plus policy number and my Medigap insurance policy #. I carry her card with her number, along with my Mexican Auto Insurance Policy on the dashboard when I am traveling. Her phone number is clearly printed. One call to her and she quickly arranges your evacuation. It is expedient and time saving...one call. She operates 24 hours, around the clock.

The cost for registering is $40.00 per year.

Edit: To find Tony's precious post and to taser him on General Principle!!:P

Enjoy Tony!

Mike, I did NOT put this thread at the top... YOU deleted the posts that started it, and left me at the top with my reply (meant to be funny) about american... Which made no sense after you deleted...

Not need to get nasty... Do you know jean's mom? She is a really nice lady, and a political oppsite of jeans... Begged me to give her my Viva Bush button back in 2004 at the cultural event hosted by Antonio (BajaCactus) so she could maybe irritate her (anti-Bush) daughter.

That's all amigo... just be nice to nice people is all I am suggesting, okay!?
