GOAL REACHED Mountain bikesLA BOCANA THANKS ALL

Hi Baja Lovers...we live in La Bocana, BCS ... and we just started a bike club for the local kids...and urgently need 8 bikes for an upcoming race !
WELL - THOSE WORDS WERE THE START OF AN ADVENTURE THAT HAS BEEN WONDERFUL AS WELL AS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT WE'VE EVER UNDERTAKEN !! And folks, thanks to YOUR kind hearted souls, we now have 21 bikes ... I will be posting pictures soon.
Merry Christmas all, thanks from the bottom of my corazon.

That is great. For the last few years we have been involved with the Bike Club in Bahia Asuncion, the Lobos Marinos. We had planned on going to the recent race at Ojo de Liebre, but had to leave.

Fantastic to see another team! For a real start on helmets, a former nomad collected a bunch of them at the big segunda sale that happens once a week in Ensenada---I forget the name, but someone will remember it.

Other donations followed and it has been a so much fun for us. They are wanting us to hurry back because we have a shopping list.

The people involved in these bike clubs in the Mulege Distrist are great.

Keep at it--hope to see you in La Bocana or in Bahia Asuncion.

John and Diane

On edit---since you have a B&B, do you accept pets?

We are located 600 miles south of the border in La Bocana, BCS. We have a wonderful B & B .. to get to us, you would go past Vizcaino, take the first right towards Punta Abreojos, drive for almost an hour, pass thru P Abreojos, head north to La Bocana. Find us on Calle Erizo northern end !! One of the most laid back wonderful villages in southern Baja (as you can tell, I am a bit partial!!!)

Where are you headed to ? If this is too far, I can give you an address in Ensenada and they will send the bikes down free. COOPERATIVA PROGRESO - 234 CALLE ABASOLO BETWEEN CORTEZ AND AGUILAS. COLONIA INDEPENENCIA 22840. Just ask for Panchito and tell him it is for Blanca and Les in La Bocana for the CLUB DE CICLISMO ....

I would love to see if we can somehow get the bikes from you before the 28th which is when we are having our FIRST ever bike race with other clubs coming to our village and 6 of the 8 kids in our club do NOT have bikes ..... our phone number is 156-0056 (once you are in southern Baja) .... If you can tell me when you will be passing by Vizcaino, we could perhaps meet you there and grab the bikes on your way down ....

That is wonderful. We are still working on donations etc. for the bike team in Bahia Asuncion, but this one in La Bocana is REAL new.

It is such a great activity for the children, but not a cheap one.

Wish we were going to be there for the first ever race in La Bocana.

BajaBlanca, I will answer your U2U with some more ideas for supporting those kids.

Diana

Do you have room for other stuff that has been donated ?? I have no idea what they have but owner Matt at BLACK MOUNTAIN BIKES in San Diego started a collection for us that will be ready Friday the 19th...(which we could cerainly shorten if you can bring what they have ????

Thanks so much !!

Bajacat, all the way In one day.or are you stopping?

I may be able to help but I am not sure what day I am traveling yet.

Blanca. Keep me informed. If they drop them off at El Crucero (chely's place at Campo Fisher, Juaquin knows her) I can bring them the rest of the way in. Not sure of the travel days yet. some where between the 20-24th.

Let me know

Besides the helmet suggestion I sent to you, uniforms are important. Besides the co-op, many of the teams have other local stores donate and then they include their name on their uniforms.

With the BA team, they were close to enough money for the uniforms, and then with a VERY generous gift from a nomad, who had only visited Bahia Asuncion once and other donations came from nomads and others who have never been close to Bahia Asuncion; one never knows.

So, the uniforms became a reality and this is what they can do.

They can turn this adorable child

into this very serious competitor

Sorry for posting these on your thread, but I wanted you to see what I was talking about in our U2Us :-) :-)

While most of the money donations are better spent in the states as everything is so expensive in our area, these donations really pushed the team forward.

Also, some money donations are also good for helping the local families with gas money for traveling to these events.

The Best of Luck, and while we remain loyal to our Bahia Asuncion team, I will be cheering for your new team.

Wish we were going to be there for the first race in La Bocana, but hopefully we will be in town for the Bahia Asuncion race.

Diana
