UT's Dibble turns recent survey of US Baja retirees into five part series: Part 1
Unfortunate timing for the printing of Part 1 though.
Some of it will look like "outdated info" given the front page story in the same issue about the US Consulate assassinations in Juarez and the revived
Travel Warnings from the State Department yesterday. I'm sure many readers will flip from the front page story to this Dibble series and wonder if
it's the same country. It's not really- this is Baja where Peace, Love and Fish Tacos rule! She is honest about the current real estate "bust", and I
have to agree- coastal litter sucks and the high-rises going in are messing with the view corridors...

The majority of these retirees aren't affected by Mexico's problems. They have chosen to lead insular, protected lives and could care less. They would
also prefer that all tourists, including most who post here, stay home.

I saw that (about leading insular lifestyles and keeping some social distance from Mexican neighbors) in the full Part 1 study published in a recent
Nomad thread.
Dibble pulled info from that, but didn't give a link to the full report that I could find. I thought she did an OK job on it... no one wants to hear
about the running sewage to the beach that was listed right up there with litter on the beach in the survey. San Diego does just as bad a job at
preventing sewage in the ocean as Baja does IMHO- only they got a permit to do it from the government.
