New Immigration Rules on 1 May
OK..I'm a dummy. But would somebody please describe for me (us) in plain English what exactly we are supposed to do and/or change on May 1.
We rent a lot at Alfonsina's so we don't technically own a house and we, obviously, go south of San Felipe. So:
1.)What form do we need to have in our possession and
2.)Where do we get it and
3.)What will it cost?

Bruce - i just bought a std FMT at MMGM thursday for $20 and Jose Rios the migracion guy didn't say anything to me - we're good friends so if anything
was up i thing he'd tell me.
i say wing it.
since i snuck out sun i didn't have to surrender it.

We are used to the FM-T rules at the aeropuerto in MMSF and other places. But we have never gotten...or been asked for...one whilst in the truck at
Alfy's or anywhere else north of there.
Not to be unkind....but!!...you'd think the Mexicans would notice the current state of tourism there and hold off on stirring up the migration pot
until everybody is fat, dumb and happy again about going to the land of sun and sand for the fun of it.
Too much to ask of a nation that, apparently, has an ethnic custom for running outa gas on holiday weekends.

and now they (mexicans) want to make us get the 406 mhz deal too by april some time.

As of 1 May do we need an FM-T 100 miles south of San Felipe but north of the Baja Sur line?

rumors???
I have heard talk here in Los Barriles that the new immigration rules allow for ONE 180-day FMT during a twelve month period... as many of my
neighbors come down in Oct and return in Mar/Apr... that would be a problem and for myself I travel each month and will easily exceed the 180 day
limit.... what do you do then ... stay NOB???? this rumor comes from folks who are trying to interpret the spanish verision of the regs that have
been recently released.... HELP!!!!

I dont know aboutt the FMT's but the Western Onion site is reporting that changes are in the wind for FM-3's and 2's. Unknown when......

The new regs are VAGUE as usual.
Trying to make heads or tails out of the new form,
(the FMM that will replace the fmt May 1), I think we'll have
to wait until the change actually takes place to see what
if any different rules apply. In the Mex Immigration info
it does not specifically address "non lucrative Tourist"
stays, it makes mention of Business travelers who stay
over the 180 day period needing an fm3.
It does mention the need for the fmm if
staying longer than 72 hrs.
It does not mention a price. Hopefully things
remain the same, and it is just a name change

I wrote a bit about this last week, after looking at the new regulations:

I think the main difference with the new FMM is that it is supposed to (eventually?) be turned in on exit - one half is the entry record, one half is
the exit record. It doesn't say anything about multiple entries.
But really what the law states is close to irrelevant, since it's usually applied differently in Baja California anyway.
For some on low fixed incomes the biggest change will be that owning a property no longer gives a 50% discount on the income requirements for an FM-3
(it still does for an FM-2).
