Bringin your tools...southbound ???

Jus sittin here havin a cervesa....and it occurred to me !
In a week or so,,,I;m gonna be bringin a fair amount of tools
down to Gonzaga.
Some power tools,some hand tools....
all well used,nothing new.
Do I need to "declare" this stuff ?
What if I set off the weight sensors in the non declare ?
Anybody know what the "rules" are ?

You shouldn't have a problem as long as it's obvious they are for personal use. You know, one or two saws. Not ten.
There's some kind of fine line in there that's not written in the books. The inspectors intuition, I guess.
I wouldn't declare it. That just opens the can of worms.

Do not declare your tools. They are going north with you when you're done, right? I've had a truck load full of generators, compressers, nail guns, table saw, sliding compound saw, skill saws, impact drills, sawzalls, etc, etc. and never a problem. Never had anyone even blink at them and I was in the declaration line declaring some windows and stuff. I've done this 6 or 7 times.

I brought a bunch of tools down in October, I got flagged into secondary where they inspected the load in my trailer, they dinged me for a few items but never batted an eye at the tools.

Santiago... man, sounds like you were ready to do anything... nice set up.. and good information.. will go with the "not declaring" know one should by the law.. but, they are not for sale, just my use while down here.. and will be going back north sometime... and they sure make things a lot easier to accomplish along with much quicker...

Along these lines, I recently asked a Mex border guard at San Ysidro about bringing lumber into Mex. I was told "10 pieces" is the limit. No further elaboration.

FWIW

I'm thinking about trying with 5. Unless I can find some 3/4 with a nice veener in TJ or Ensenada. The Rosarito Home Depot has a luan veneer, but it's just OK.

I want to make a bunch of slab cabinet doors.

Declaration choice

If you declare then there's the option of returning to the States. If you get a red light, you don't. Whatever the valuation...you pay.

And I've been told...absolutely, positively no lumber.

Well when I asked the inspector was looking at 6 8 foot 1 x 2 oak sticks I bought in Chula Vista. I got the red light. Small stuff but that was OK.

It's a crap shoot.

That Luan ply is as good as I've seen here for consistancy. It paints up well. Expensive, though.
Let us know how it goes with five sheets.

The best HD in Ensenada has to offer other than Luan is "good one side" interior [for sure] 3/4. 300 Ps. I would choose the Luan.
