Blowing in the Wind

Holy Jehovah !

On a miserable Windy Blowsand day that SHOULD discourage any outdoor activity, the Witnesses came visiting.

Have to admire that degree of dedication, I guess.

All along the Watch Tower

I believe I've convinced them I'm not among the 144,000.

They seem to avoid me like the plague.

Isn't it amazing that in a predominately Catholic country that we are inundated with all of the proselitizers who think it is their holy mission to knock on every door and persistently convince you to "do the right thing".
I used to own and operate a home for emotionally disturbed children and I always found it amazing that one of the more aggresive charismatic groups had set arbitrary values of what could be used for premium points and my kids had twice the value of the "average" kid in town. Now taken to it's logical conclusion, I wonder if a poor fisherman in a Mexican village has a point value of 10 or if they are not quite as important as the Delegado or Alcade and only bring 5 points if you get him hooked in to attending a service. I guess it is all souls for the everafter and maybe they are all "equal in his sight", but just don't know it yet.

Can you imagine spending eternity with 143,999 JW's? Sorry, I'll accept the alternative, WHATEVER that may be.

Bill,

Since we are between Meling and Mikes Sky ranch you can imagine how "good" our road is! Last summer we got visitors, 2 well groomed gentleman in white dress shorts and a tie..... Oh Oh must be religious types, sure enough handing out the same witness literature we saw in Canada! They even wanted to drive on to Mikes in a honda civic no less! Maybe we should have let them go:lol:

I am not a member of any of the religions mentioned, but why is religion being discussed somewhere other than off-topic??

Because ?

The Visit was in BAJA !

Besides, I don't think it's actually a discussion of Religion as such.

Just a sharing of common experience with the persistent Jehovahs.

Speaking of which, the two Witnesses who visited us were One Gringa and a Latina who gave mi esposa reading material in BOTH English and Spanish. Covering all the bases.

OR, Maybe, they thought she'd be so inspired that she'd run out and share the revelation with all the neighbors. Hasn't happened yet, but I'm keeping an eye on her. Just in case.

1st-- the wind: Drove up Wed. Not a lot of truck traffic and only a few brave/stupid RV'ers. I was getting move from lane to lane in an Explorer.Very strong wind!
2nd -- The witnesses: I make it perfectly clear to being very rude and I have had pleasant non religious visits several times. When it turned to religion I just suggested they leave before I got mad. Much more pleasant than in the States.

Was visited once by a couple of very pretty young saints on a mission. They asked " Do you believe God answers your prayers?" I could only smile in reply.

The JWs, are little different from a number of fundamentalist religious groups, whether Christian, Muslim, or whatever. I really think that whenever anyone is working on making value judgments, they really have to go further back and question why it is that people need emotional crutches to allow them to live out their day. Just what is it, it the current world, that drives people to embrace, or should I say, obsessively embrace some set of dogma? Although maybe not right on point with this thread, it was just announced that a successor to Cardinal Mahony will be a Mexican born archbishop who is currently in San Antonio. The new fella just happens to be among the limited elite of Opus Dei. ( if this is new to you, and forget the Da Vinci Code, go google Opus Dei) The message the pope is sending is that no more social activism. Back to the fundamentals of centuries past. So, I just have to ask what is the difference between the witnesses trying to save your souls, and the Catholic Church looking to embrace the thirteenth century?

If I know it's them, I usually answer the door without clothes on, just a very small towel around the waist. They usually look a bit shocked. Simple pleasures....

The same ones very rarely come back.
