OMG
Did anyone else see the backup on the 5/805 merge at the border last evening. It looked like the wait had to be at least 3-4 hours. What a
nightmare! Plus the newsman reported that there were a few incidents of road rage that were making it an even bigger mess. They reported that the
reason was increased scrutiny going into Mexico. I'm definitely using Otay Mesa next time I cross.

Right...in a way. Now they get to enjoy it coming and going. Their daily misery just doubled.

So many cross both ways everyday---what a nightmare!
Does anyone know if it is really a lot slower in the mornings going south?

I was stuck in it. Got in line at 4pm and finally crossed south at 5:45. I'm sure it got worse into the real rush hour.
Mexico had the last lanes on the left closed and once people saw the "red X" up ahead they all tried to push everyone over to the right. Many
Tijuaneros cruised past us all on the left side breakdown lane and cut in front at the cement barriers. So many in fact they actually made their own
lane and squeezed everyone else over (those uber-aggressive driver types are not good about alternating BTW)
The CHP could help by enforcing no-driving-in-breakdown-lane laws on the US side, and Mexico could help by opening all its southbound lanes. At $300 a
pop- the hundred or more cars go past in the breakdown lanes would have been a CA profit center.
I would love to see one CHP car send everyone driving in the "U-Turn To USA" lane back to the USA and make them go to the back of the line and wait
like everyone else.

I always try to head south before 3:00 (sooner on Friday) if I miss that deadline I head to Otay; after that, you'll be waiting longer than you did to
enter the US...not to mention TJ police do a MUCH better job at policing people bypassing the line. CHP drives by cars parallel in the 805 trying to
get in.

Better to have a great sandwich and a cool drink at Eric's Deli in Otay while you wait for the S/B traffic to subside.

I called CHP one day when people were rear ending one another. The lady told me they couldn't be everywhere at once. There are so many places they
can set up patrol cars. The reasons it is slow are ONE: the drivers will hold up traffic (or ram into the person in front of them while laughing)
before letting someone in front of them; TWO, the Mexican employees just wave everyone through even if the bottleneck is not moving, worsening the
traffic jam just after passing. I have been rammed by someone who couldn't wait for me to pull into secondary after getting the red light; I pursued
him and informed him he hit me (he did not care) and THREE, right after crossing those lanes turn into two (although there is ample space to the left
that is blocked off, which could be used for traffic) and no one cooperates; the trucks and SUVs force their way through and you must aggressively
lane merge in order to leave unscathed. These are the reasons I avoid that crossing like the plague after 3pm

Southbound after 3 PM on weekdays is horrible. Everybody is jacked up, switching lanes, not letting others merge, and driving on the shoulders. It's
chaos. I'm starting to see backups at other times too.
I recently switched my Chula Vista mailbox to just across the border in San Ysidro so I can walk across to get my mail and I no longer cross for
shopping.
The border reconstruction, which is going to take years to complete, includes more southbound inspection lanes, but it's going to be a loooooong time
before they're complete.

Eric's Deli is a great little sandwich shop, just north of the Otay border crossing. Good food, clean restrooms. It is located in a strip mall between
Roll Drive and Paseo De Las Americas where those two streets dead end into Via De La Amistad.
As you pass through US Customs at Otay, take the first exit northbound which is Siempre Viva Road. Continue to your right off of the ramp onto Siempre
Viva. The second street on your right is Paseo De La Americas. Turn right on Americas. Just before it dead ends into Amistad, turn right, into the
parking lot of the strip mall........it's right in front of you.

Yes, please don't forget us.
Crossed southbound on Thursday at 5pm...no wait.
Yesterday, crossed back into the States at 2pm...zero wait time.
Back across the border at 5:30pm...damn, no waiting again

Expect to cross northbound this morning at 7. I'm betting there won't be a wait. Damn...

The cafe at Brown Field (Landing Strip?) is better because they have a full bar and after 2-3 drinks you don't care how long the back up is
