Horses in Baja

I have been working with two horse therapy groups in the La Paz area which need a few more and younger horses. One ranch is located just south of La Paz and the other is in San Pedro. Both places work with kids and are very well managed. I have also been working with a couple of horse rescue places here in Central Oregon which is willing to donate horses to both places. We can get horse trailers donated to take the horses down and also leave the trailers in Baja. What we are starting to look for are people willing to haul the horses to somewhere in Baja or to La Paz. Please U2U me if you have any ideas. Time frame is from now through the end of the year.

Hi Baja Steve-

Do the groups you work with take volunteers at all? I have some horse experience, a little rusty, but I have worked with them and am always on the lookout for opportunities to volunteer and have a cool adventure.

Also I am a film maker and I am starting up a web documentary series that is very Baja centric, and I would like to perhaps film a short journalistic documentary about your organizations.

Regards-

Gabriel

I don't mean to rain on your highly commendable intentions, but if you haven't yet looked into it, it might be prudent to find out the legalities about getting horses across the border. I don't have any personal knowledge, but if dogs, cats & birds require International Health Certificates....I'm just saying.........

And if you're upfront & honest about the trailers being donated & staying in Mexico, there's most likely going to be an importation process & fees to contend with.

If all the paperwork health wise is there do you have to pay an import fee of some kind? It's not like bringing a pet down or is it.

Steve: Glad to see it. Might I suggest that you get in contact with one of the State Rescue Units{There are many} It will be a good Source for Horses at a resonable price.

As far as getting them into Baja I would strongly suggest you get in touch with Local Horse person in what ever area you are gpoing to operate.

There is usually someone that brings in broken down Race Horses fix them up then race them aganist another Village or Town.

You would save money if you let the Mexicano Import them for you.

Maybe not. About ten years ago, I knew someone with the local Charro Association. When they wanted to participate in an event on the US side, they would trail their horses to the border then ride them across as the trailers went through and picked them up on the other side.
I'm sure they did that to avoid red tape.
