I think it has more to do with what's going on in Europe. The Euro is tanking over the Greek financial crisis, which has correspondingly strengthened the dollar.

sharp fall in the peso due to worries over Greece's debt crisis...

peso slipped to a two-month low against the U.S dollar today...

riskier assets were pressured about concerns that the greek debt crisis could spread elsewhere in the euro zone...

i just got a raise:saint::saint:

Dang it, playing with the peso exchange feels like gambling, and I hate gambling with our hard earned money. We panicked about 3 weeks ago after watching the rate continue to drop and made a couple of very large (large for our budget ) transfers in to pesos and ended up getting 11.8. This was in anticipation of buying bulk building materials since the cost of cement/block was going up too. I'm not even going to do the math to see what we'd have at today's rate because it would probably ruin my day.

time to "do the math"

dollars rate peso difference
1000 11.8 11800
1000 11.9 11900 100
1000 12 12000 100
1000 12.1 12100 100
1000 12.2 12200 100
1000 12.3 12300 100
1000 12.4 12400 100
1000 12.5 12500 100
1000 12.6 12600 100
1000 12.7 12700 100
1000 12.8 12800 100

total extra pesos for 1 point is $1000 pesos

or

30+ gallons of gasoline

or

3 tanks of BIG bottle propane

or

3+ months of "pipa water"

or

35+ quarts of milk

or

141 bottles of beer

We pay $1425 pesos for 3 big tanks of propane

and

$1000 p for ONE truck load of water

but

Thank goodness beer is about the same because I buy it in bulk

The difference between Citibank's online wire transfer rate today of 12.43 and the rates I got in April when i transferred a chunk of our construction budget to pesos would have paid for a a flatbed semi load of block- delivered and everything...
