Keep us posted on the next fundraiser. I'd love to buy a t-shirt or get my truck washed while supporting the kids. I think it's a great cause.

And you will be using some of your contacts to look for some good used parts for them? If you come through with something real, rather than just sarcasm, we will happily see that your truck is washed.

We won't, however, give up our t-shirts and they do not have more at this time.

Thanks for your offer and efforts to help the children in your community.

DianaT-

No sarcasm here. Good luck with your efforts. A little more tact might go a bit further with your requests. I offered to help the kids period. You are way out of line on this one.

Have a great day.

Is there a little friction between DianaT and Bajaboy?
Trouble in paradise?
Does not that area have no problems?
Where is Shari?
Does not she supprot the community?
Who is Gladys Kravits?
Who is Darrin Stevens?
Are you selling CaptMikes tshirts?
Is he donating?

Hi Kat
here I am...say what?
We "sopprot" the community in oh so many ways.
so what
I dont need to broadcast who we help...do I?
the bike club is diannes baby.
I have my own babies to supprot.
of course I can help by accepting and passing on any donations to the club in diannes absence.

(oh yeah...and some other folks here will help out but mentioned they didnt like the guilt trip type pitch.)

I wish the cycle club the best of luck with every thing, I honestly hope that the kids can keep up this activity, since it's good for them in so many ways.
If they need help printing or making fliers and/or anything else that can be done by computer (editing photos, etc) please let me know I'd be more than happy to lend a hand.
Unfortunately I can't donate for lack of moolah but if hands on help is needed let me know.

The Lobos Marinos, the local bike club ,really needs some help. There are several kids who want to join, but cannot do so because of the lack of equipment.

Before we were able to get them going with the generous help of a some nomads---some who have never even been here. But we have about exhausted our resources and can only do so much---we do continue to donate what we can.

Today Chayo, the head of the club, showed us what has happened to many of the bikes----some frames are there, but the parts are trashed. He also said that one Canadian who will be back in October is going to try and help.

But if any of you other part time residents or visitors want to help, they really need mountain and road bikes and parts of every kind---tubes, brakes, cables, cranks, chains, tires, seats, etc. and of course money helps.

To leave any donations, Chayo (Jesus) is easy to find. Besides being a fisherman, he has a carpenter shop which is easy to see on the way into town. It not far from the entrance to the town and is on the right hand side of the street as one enters town.

Because of a medical problem, we will be leaving in a day or two and not sure when we will be back---

So if any of you part time residents or visitors who have any connections to the bicycle world, or can help in any way, stop and see Chayo----he is also a nice person and one of the good carpenters in town if you need any work done.

I have posted lots of photos of the team before, but they are on my other computer----but here is Chayo

Just wanted to get this message out before we leave as I know there are some who are planning on being here soon.

Shari, I quoted our original post and your comment---can you please help and point out where in that post there is any guilt trip pitch?

John and I have read it and reread it and are baffled? Where is what you call a guilt trip pitch? Is it the idea that they really need help?

I think we were quite clear in stating IF any one wants to help---

The bike club is not our baby---it is a community organization as is the surf club---both of whom we have tried to assist.

So please, where is the guilt? We very much accept the idea that people do what they see fit---but when you or anyone else asks for help for something you think is important, is that a guilt trip?

People will help if they want to and not if they do not. Some have promised help and changed their mind. That is all OK as they make their own decisions for their own reasons.

We believe guilt is something that comes from inside, not outside, but if you disagree and see where we have crossed the line, please let us know.

John and Diane

I offered to help out the team with money and some how that was deemed as undermining this effort. In my opinion you crossed the line.

dianne, this is not the first thread where you have pointedly "asked" part time residents, visitors & property owners here for donations...you have mentioned that EVEN people who have never been here have donated which could very possibly be taken for a guilt trip or trying to shame people into giving...several property owners have commented on your method of trying to get help for the bike club is not exactly...as bajaboy mentioned...tactful. I found it somewhat distasteful how you publicly imply that expats dont help the children here...some dont however most do, but in their own ways. Repeatedly applying pressure may be counterproductive.

We found personally going door to door to talk to people was a productive method of getting donations for the surf club when they needed travel funds...perhaps some of the bikers might try this too. You or someone coul write up something in english for them to show the expats.

I understand bike clubs need money and parts etc. and look forward to the club doing more fundraising...I personally have never seen nor been offered a t-shirt from the club. I'm sure many nomads will be happy to help this worthy cause as you mentioned you were pleased at the response you got from people...good for you for helping these deserving kids.

Number one, we never indicated that ex-pats do not help the children here---please, point where we said that. Yes, some who have never been to BA have helped because they wanted to.
that surprised us as most of the ex-pats are very involved in their own communities and contribute at lot at their local level. But the club really appreciated the help.

There were a limited amount of t-shirts and they were only sold to those who had expressed an interest in helping the club and you have never shown an interest in any way whatsoever. That is your choice. Most of their fundraisers have been the selling of food, etc. at community events----that does raise the money for travel expenses.

You indicate that us asking for help for this club was applying pressure, distasteful and an attempt to make people feel guilty? Why would we not suggest that the people interested in Bahia Asuncion be the ones who may want to contribute. Ex-pats in other communities are usually the ones very involved in THEIR community---seems rather appropriate. We also were not asking that anyone go through us, we suggested that IF they wanted to help, they could seek out the leader of the team. Was asking for people to donate to your daughter's education pressure and distasteful, or simply a request for people to help who know you and your family want to help?

So you think going door to door seeking gas money is a better way to go----I don't think they will ever do that. And as I said, we think it is better for anyone around BA who is interested to get involved directly with the club. And that is what two other people are doing---one met Chayo through business and one we introduced him to Chayo---so they are on their own which is a good thing.

It really is a matter of choice of what anyone wants to do---we are not requesting anything for us, just for some others. If all the people to whom you have sold property are offended, well that is their choice. They can make their own decisions as to what they want to do and how they want to feel about it.

And if anything we say stops anyone from doing something they want to do, well that really is their business. It does not make any difference to us.

No one expects you or anyone else to become interested in this community project----it is a matter of choice. We do not expect anyone to feel guilty----that is their problem, not ours. If we lived in Mulege, we would have suggested Mulege people help, or if we lived in Loreto, we would have suggested Loreto people help.

for the record Dianne, I got some biking shirts donated that I gave the club and would be happy to buy some tacos...I am involved in several other clubs in town...kids baseball, surf club, soccer, helping individual familes out, cowboy club, etc...you were doing such a great job getting help for the bike club as your special interest and I was never approached by the club for any help...I was asked by Blanca for some support for their club and am happy to do what I can.
PLease dont guilt trip me....and dont be so mad at me...you asked me to explain and I did.

I dont mind asking the good nomads for help but dont shame the ones who arent interested or unable to assist.

Why not go door to door...we get lots of kids coming and asking for donations for one thing or another....I buy raffle tickets all the time which is a common way to raise money.

On that OTHER matter...see new thread.

No one is shaming or guilt tripping anyone----everyone chooses their own things and their own emotions. And in line with that, we are not angry, just see things differently.

So, it is up to each individual to make decisions for themselves.

The end----definitely the end of this subject.

Diane, I see you wish to end this thread. I was going to write earlier, but I got distracted by the breaking news on Asuncion's new resident!

One thing I agree on you with is that "everyone chooses their own things". So please don't think we don't support the bike team. We are just uncomfortable with the choices you are making to be selective in who's charity you wish to accept. I think Blanca's offer of a bike, Zac's support of fundraising efforts, and Capn Mike's offer to donate are all good.

We love our new life in Asuncion, and are happy and eager to contribute in our own way.
Nan
