Anybody visited with Bill and Bonnie of San Lucas Cove? Are they still diving? Any stories anybody has of diving would like to read.

Have had several recent E mails from Bonnie..Bill never sends E mails
They are no longer in SLC-- Have moved..
Not certain if Bill is still actively spear fishing==A. G. E. Disease
He was one of the best who ever shot a fish..

we see bill n bonnie regularly and believe me....he is actively spearfishing!! They are doing well and seem to be enjoying life.

They still have the place at Lagoonside which is right next to the military base in San Lucas Cove and they have built a place at Asuncion, so they
now officially are at both places. Bill is still diving and we play guitar together frequently. He is also fishing. They are not doing too much
with the marine business so you can assume they are officially retired and enjoying life to the fullest. Bill still amazes me in that he finds some
way to stay down at least twice as long as I do. I think he has hidden air down on the bottome someplace.

Thanks for the response. I had the best day of diving ever with them about 10 years ago. In one morning we shot barred pargo,yellowtail, dorado,
cabrilla and a 53lb rooster!!! never forget that trip. Learned alot from both of them. I forgot lunch and Bonnie fed me some of her breaded calmari,
unbelievable.

They just came back from Asuncion yesterday, but do not know if they will be heading right back over or here for a few days.

Yes we did eat the roosterfish. My Father in law prepared most of it machaca style, with salsa pato and veggies it wasn't bad.

Guess I was trying to be judge and jury regarding in my opinion, "murdering " a large Roosterfish.
In my un-important opinion in this world, I was extremely offended that you killed a beautiful fish for the sake of sport. Now that I find that you
ate it, good for you!
I guess you can teach an old dog (me) a new trick. The lesson of the day for me is, I should get all the facts before I make a judgment.

Bill and I have been aware of each other by reputation for at least 30 perhaps more years. but never met do to a geographical separation many many
miles. It wasn't until a visit to San Lucas Cove about 15 or more years ago that we personally met and became friends.
Bill's spearfishing was influenced and honed in his home town of San Diego by his friendship and association with the early pioneers of spear fishing
world the famed " Bottom Scratchers Spear fishing club," the world's oldest club devoted to the art and science of spearfishing.
Bill shoots a 48 inch Prodanovich spear gun and Bonnie shoots a 42 inch Prodanovich spear gun. You won't find these guns in any catalog nor are they
currently available; they were custom made by one of the grand old men of spearfishing and a member of the Bottom Scratchers Jack Prodanovich who is
no longer with us. The Prodanovich guns that on occasion appear on the market demand premium prices for they are extremely accurate powerful and
have a history....
Bill also has a very large beautiful totally hand made gun made by the other half of the Bottom Scratchers bopsy twins the late Wally Potts, which is
surprisingly called a Wally Potts gun. Perhaps some of you had the opportunity to see the gun or perhaps hold it. It is a long wood gun constructed
of laminated walnut and birch and fully rigged in the San Diego style. This gun is very valuable and rightfully so should be in a museum, however
Bill's philosophy s "The gun was made by Wally for me to shoot fish and that is what I will do with it." I totally agree!
Bill is unquestionably the most knowledgeable experienced spear fisherman in all of Baja and the rest of Mexico. He is one to emulate. If he offers
you the opportunity to accompany him spear fishing take it!
I know nothing about pole fishing or as we spear fishermen of old referred to it as "wishing fishing." (Pescado can verify) However I have
participated in spear fishing for longer than most of you have been on this earth and I do know spearfishing and can identify a spear fisherman
Bill is a world class Spear Fisherman..........

I have known Bill an Bonnie for about 10 years and learned alot from them, from the bendix on my
outboard, to cooking crabs we caught in SLC, and even a little guitar. But what I am most in disbelief is his bottom time.

Well Dean, I do know how well he swims and stays underwater, but I have to tell you that one of the most impressive things of late is how well he

Bill is really close with his ten fingers...
I certainly have enjoyed his and your playing for many many years, always a highlight of past visits to SLC.
Now as soon as the sun goes down evey one heads for their trailers to watch TV for night time entertainment...Gone are the campfires and
sing-a-longs...... Progress! Urg!
