Hi Judy, I have 4 plants, 3 in the ground, for a year now. They are growing good but the all have brown stripes in their leaves. Is that too
much/not enought water ? Or just the time of year ?
Thanks for the Banditos book I got at Rancho Buena Vista.

I have a few growing in Pescadero, they are very hardy plants. Very cool when they start flowering/fruit. I have not had any problems with the
conejos, they don't seem to bother like other plants.

If you look at the pix of april 17 you can see that the leaves have a red center. I looked at all of mine and that seems to indicate that they are
getting ready to bloom. Are yours red or brown in the middle. Brown would probably indicate not enough water...probably

OMG.... noticed one of my pineapple plants has a new bloom on it. Unreal... here are two photos of the little pineapple baby! I'm so proud of it.

Bob how old do you figure that baby is? I just back tracked and looked at your prior posts. 2 years in a pot then 2 years in the ground? 4 year old
sound right?

The bloom just sprouted, I would say last week... the plant is about four or five years old.
Now, I don't know what to do... fertilize it more? Do I have to worry about pests?

It was rather small but very sweet.
Already have the top in soil ready to make another pina!

That is a great looking pineapple. Some of the
best pineapples we've ever had have been small.
When we were anchored in Black Manele Harbor on Lanai many years ago, we were told that pineapple plants have 3 good crops. The 3rd year was the best
fruit so keep your plant going.
I think the world is run by C- students.

Which leaves us with one dilemma,  Since they are grown from the tops of store bought pineapples, who's to know what crop number we're at.
Ending sentence with a preposition, shame on me.
BTW my plants are in their 4th year and no sign of any fruit anywhere.

Glad you asked. The same Lanai resident had picked pineapple for much of his life when Dole was still
canning Hawaiian pineapples. He said the 1st picking was for canning, the 2nd for fresh retail and canning and the 3rd for restaurants and the ones
the locals ate. I don't think it makes any difference which picking the top is from, it depends on the crop that top will later produce. Judy's next 2
should get progressively better. (Assuming that pineapple picker knew his pineapple from a passion fruit.)

Now I'm thoroughly confused. Don't pineapple plants, like bananas, only produce one fruit crop before they croak ?
Are you telling me that the same plant produces fruit year after year ?
Enlighten me !!!
