say what?
memorial day is for remembering those that died in war.
veterans day is more appropriate for acknowledging living veterans.

Memorial Day was always celebrated on May 30th. It was originally called Decoration Day and then moved to the last Monday in May.
Pretty soon Washington will move Christmas to the 4th Sunday in December, July 4th to the first Monday in July and move thanksgiving from Thursday to
Monday.
I hope Cinco de Mayo will remain the same.

we grow old because we stop playing

Why are they nasty? There are differing estimates, but at the upper end, there are 7 million Muslims in the US. And NYC just happens to contain one of
the larger groups. In a certain sense, given that a mosque is, after all, a house of worship, would it not make sense that the local Muslims would see
a certain redemptive aspect to locating a mosque as both a penance and a tribute to those fallen? That said, Timothy McVeigh was raised in the Roman
Catholic Church. So, should we condemn all Catholics?

From the NY Post:
"If the Japanese decided to open a cultural center across from Pearl Harbor, that would be insensitive." "If the Germans opened a Bach choral society
across from Auschwitz, even after all these years, that would be an insensitive setting. I have absolutely nothing against Islam. I just think: Why
there?"

Dennis. There is a substantial difference. In both of the cited cases, it was a sovereign nation (Germany, Japan) that had declared war on us. In this
case, it's a fringe element of a religion that took down the towers. I see a big difference. Now, if the Taliban or Al Qaeda was seeking to open
something, be it a mosque or a hummus factory, I'd agree with you.

Liberals are tediuos and lacking in basic common sense. Debating with 'em is
fun, but gets boring quickly, especially when they start name calling.

actually, it was al queda and they happen to be islamics. the motivation of al queda is not religion, the motivation is hatred of US policy and
actions

All I can say is that I engaged in no name calling. I think of Dennis as a friend. If anyone appears to have started a name calling match, it is you.
And for the goat, not totally correct. While I wholeheartedly agree with you that there is a hatred of US policies, they are, after all, invoking the
most radical ideas found within the Quran to support their ideology and deeds, much to the detriment of mainstream Muslims.
That said, as Memorial Day approaches, I strongly urge everyone to reflect on those who have fought on behalf of this nation. Sons, daughters,
sisters, brothers, all went forth in battle to protect this country. I only wish that it did not have to happen in wars of choice some of the time.
Double sad.

A mosque near ground zero would be the moral equivalent of this:

Beautiful, ain't it?

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and the Imam
Take the time to listen to the man (Imam) speak in clear tones and in the english language about what ALL Muslims should do... and
what the United States is required to take action on to correct for their benefit, in America... and by the way... try and take and carry a Bible to
Saudi Arabia, and yes while there take a stroll by the Ka’ba, oh and tell them to change their system to fit yours particular "twist" on life ....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUYIHRRaPmA
One may conclude that this wave of PC (Political Correctness) on Islam, is in preparation for a military strike into the Tribal Areas in Pakistan....
they have just been put on "notice" by our Government... and we would not want ALL of the Islamic faith to think that we are totally against them...

I echo Mexicorn's words. I have a dad who came back home after fighting in the Philippines, and a brother who came back from Vietnam, suffered from
PTSD, and shot himself. He was my baby brother and I miss him.
