I think it was Vince Lombardi who said "A tie is like kissing your sister."

But, under the circumstances this was probably the best outcome. S. Africa escaped the humiliation of being the first host nation ever to lose an opening round, both are still in the game with no disadvantage, having one goal each. There were a few fouls (there always are), but no really egregious red card offenses and so far there seems to be no bad blood.

Not the same tomorrow. We need to whip them Brits like a rented mule. USA! USA! USA!

Uruguay Vs. France was tied 0-0 so Mexico and South Africa are tied in first place with 1 point each!!
2 games to go until we know who goes on to the next round...maybe there is hope for the Mexico team after all:biggrin::biggrin::bounce::wow:

I have to chuckle, just a bit. Given the nature of this forum, it is really not reflective of US culture as a whole. I was picking up a vibe from BMG on this. Frankly, the vast majority of Americans could care less about the World Cup. A significant number of them, will of course visit sports bars to drink. But, after all this time, Americans complain about the low scoring in Futbol games, which undeniably have tons of action. They'd rather watch besibol, where there is also usually low scores, but significantly less action. Go figure.

GO CHARGERS!

but really, i love the world cup and can't stand soccer. especially the latin teams who think flailing and falling after the least bit of contact is part of the game.

give me the european leagues and i'm happy!!!!

:P Woody the flailing and falling is my favorite part of the game!!

I got snapped at for laughing when players would start going at each other for pushing the others team mates!

For what it's worth, the teams that played today had decent games, both tied but played well IMO.

Hmmmm....Low readings on the "Interest Scale" here. Is anybody watching the games?
If yes, does anyone know what that background noise is? It sounds like a huge swarm of bees. I heard it yesterday and it's the same today. It's also gawwwdammm annoying.
I thought it may be all those plastic horns people are carrying around bleating at once but the intensity never changes.
Any ideas?

The commentators on the tube just explained the droning noise. It is the plastic horns.

Whoooops....I didn't see Zac's post up there. Thanks.

Eat and drink more !!! .. then the game does not seem so slow, plus always carry a dart board in your car or other items which can add to ones enjoyment while downing a few, maybe a helmet too ... just saying... and don't forget to bet a lot on any team.. that usually helps too...

Hell, I've pick Mexico.. why not ... it's a lot more fun to be rooting for the home team... plus can always pick another if they go down... it's all fun ...

That's because we concentrate on the scoreboard. the game going on at this moment, ENG vs USA, has been a virtual scoring frenzy. 1-1 and lots of time to go.

Probably the end of Green's England career.
Those vuvuzelas are annoying, but so are the airhorns used at most USA games,....... and the stupid singing and chanting at EPL games. How do you like to listen to a bunch of a..holes singing " you never walk alone" during a whole 90 minute game ? ( Liverpool ):no:

Ah yes, those obnoxious vuvuzelas. Organizers did a noise level study before the Cup started and determined that the noise level wasn't that bad (wonder if they've ever sat in the middle of them?). Now I just saw on TV that the World Cup people are seriously considering banning them (maybe they finally sat in the middle of them). Personally, I cannot imagine spending hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars for a ticket and having to listen to that constant buzz for the entire game. ¡Abajo los vuvuzelas
