Possible FMM Clarification
This is off an RV Site/ Mexico Section posted by someone
who claims to have a little inside Info surrounding New FMM's
which replaced the FMT's On May 1. The way I read it,
one CAN get another fmm, right after their current one of 180
days expires. As referenced in last paragraph.
Anyone read anything different?

Unh Unh, Lic. Ismael Abarca INM and I had a wonderful one-hour chat on Thursday about the FMM. Actually I interviewed him, and he was gracious enough
to telephone Morelia, and then Morelia telephoned the big enchilada in Mexico City to confirm (or deny) some of the claims that I have been gathering
for the last several months about the FMM and it's regulations:
The FMM was not designed to be a vehicle to implement a whole bunch of restrictions on tourists. The FMM was designed to ELIMINATE five other
immigration permits that had to be ordered and inventoried at INM offices.
There is nothing printed on the new FMM form (I have an image of a complete FMM document, including the part for immigration and the part for the bank
stored on my hard drive). I have examined the document, letter-by-letter. It states nothing about yearly aggregate time limitations, like the 180-days
in a year, urban myth that seems to be so popular. Ismael telephoned Morelia in my presence and the DELEGADO FEDERAL HIMSELF telephoned Mexico City
INM and inquired as to the existence of such a law. No one in INM ever heard even so much as a rumor and frankly they were puzzled that something like
that was circulating. This gossip is garbage.
I specifically inquired as to the legality of exiting Mexico with the FMM on the 179th day, surrendering it, turning around and then obtaining a new
FMM for 180-days. VERBATIM from Ismael "Some immigration officers do not like this; I think it best to wait a few hours or even overnight". This point
was also clarified in Morelia and in Mexico City over the telephone.

That's so interesting. All along, I thought it was about weeding out folks living in Mexico who did not apply for the FM-3. On the other hand, it does
make a certain sense that if the rule really is 180 days per year- no renewal, that could have a negative effect on tourism.

I believe it has never been written in an official Mexican Government website that any tourist can not turn around the same day or the next after an
FMT or now an FMM passes the 180 day limit...just a rumor or old wives tale....

Well, just a minute. Why would gringos make up this rumor?
At least from my perspective over here in Sonora, THE RUMOR WAS BEGUN BY INFORMAL CHATS WITH INM PERSONNEL THEMSELVES, who warned people who were
renewing that the aggregate total of days in Mexico on an FMM would be enforced.
Naturally, few chisel what Mexican officials say, verbally, in stone. And the credibility and enforcement of what is WRITTEN is only slightly more
solid.
As usual, it's wait and see with Mexico...........................
