New meat market near Los Cabos

New meat market down south.

My wife and I are always on the lookout for new places to shop down here in or near Los Cabos. When we can, we try to help the small local merchants who are losing ground to the big box stores here.

On a recent trip to San Lucas we found a neighborhood meat market that held much promise – they had some huge hams in the case.

We were thrilled and bought a big one. The price was right and our mouths were watering as we lugged the big piece of meat to the car. As I set it down I couldn’t help but see a small but distinct tattoo on the skin of the big pork butt; a seashell, a gun and a peso sign.

I left Lynda in the car with the air running -- I was thrown off by this discovery and took the thing back into the store. I was only about a third of the way through my stumbling, mumbling pigeon Spanish about my fears about the marks when the guy behind the counter smiled, took the big ham and gave me one just about the same size.

I was very relieved as you can imagine. I was still smiling when I checked the replacement and relieved again when I then saw the inspection mark or something on this other one which was MS 13, probably some sort of transport or import code. Whew!

That meat market wasn't located next to The Office was it Osprey?
I bet there's a lot of big butts down there with a ms-13 tatoo on them, might even find a pistol or a Peso tatoo as well.

Maybe imported from El Salvador. Isn't that ms-13 home ground?

Really have to pay attention to the inspection marks. Some can be confusing.
