Not a bad exchange rate for cash dollars at Bancomer in San Jose del Cabo. I was getting worried with all the talk about banks not exchanging cash dollars without an account.

But no problem.

The right now official exchange rate is 13.08 to one. 12.83 is tolerable.

umm. We haven't been able to find any Mexican change houses in Rosarito that gives anything close to the posted rate. We exchange in San Ysidro. The profit spread is just too profitable. Good for you!

last Wednesday I went to the Banamex in Los Barriles... to exchange $300usd to pesos.... they would not do in without my having a FM3 & Passport.... I do not have FM3 yet!! ... I was told that the regs had been changed as of 6/2/2010 to allow exchange with either FM3 OR passport.... apparently not..... in Los Barriles!!!!

And you won't. Their approximate fee for their service is 2 %. After all, they can't be expected to survive on money-laundering alone.

I know banks charge fees as well. I was just giving the current rate as a comparison.

pesos to dollars

From reading the above posts, it looks like only one bank in San Jose is exchanging dollars to pesos. Has anyone else been able to exchange at any banks?

banamex, Scotia, and bancnorte, and bancomer all exchange, I believe. However it's been awhile since I have done so.

Last time I exchanged it was 15.6!!!

I use HSBC and they don't exchange.

Fact is, Peso vrs. Dollar will always be a give and take thing. The dollar will give a little and the peso will take a little, but the dollar will rule.
