December gasoline prices...
Current fuel prices....
Here are the fuel prices for December 2004:
Magna.............$ 5.95 pesos per liter
Premium..........$ 7.03 pesos per liter
Diesel..............$ 4.94 pesos per liter
These prices are in liters and 1 gallon = 3.7854 liters.
Today (dec 1st) 1 dollar = $ 11.30 pesos (+/-)
Using the previous information, this is what we have....
Magna.............$ 1.99 dollars per gallon
Premium..........$ 2.35 dollars per gallon
Diesel..............$ 1.65 dollars per gallon

Today, the lowest price I saw for Regular (= to Magna) was at an AM/PM for $2.139/ gal. Most others here in San Diego North County are closer to $2.23
or more. Along the freeway more like $2.43!

baja cactus, why is it that pemex has no interest in building new gas stations or fixing the old between your place and jesus maria. it seems that the
keep building in areas that dont need them and avoid areas that do.

Hi Steve, until Antonio gets back to you on your question, let me tell you what he told me... I asked the same question when we were driving to El
Rosario, last week.
Pemex only makes the gasoline and covers the delivery of it to the station. The station is owned independently as a franchised dealer. The ejidos in
central Baja owned those stations that have closed (San Agustin, Catavina, Parador Punta Prieta, Rosarito)... They closed because of poor business
management... they spent all the money from sales, and wouldn't/couldn't pay for new gasoline to be delivered. Pemex keep extending credit to keep
them open... But, there's a limit to the kindness.
Antonio, please correct me if I misunderstood any of your story.

Note - as the Peso/Dollar change - less pesos for the dollar, the price per gallon rises. Today it is 1.17 the lowest in a long time.

from the clinica....ear, nose, throat infection....Penicilin shot over the next seven days, pills and pain meds....
NADA! Something really wrong up there.

I question your comment that the US is the wealthiest.
$2.13 per gallon is the cheapest gas in the Los Angeles, South Bay area that I can find today

65%???? No Health Insurance????
Capt. George----where did you get that figure of 65% in USA with no health insurance?? I thought it was closer to 45%. And why do many of these folks
not have health insurance???? because they have not bought health insurance!!!!! Why have they not bought health insurance??? because they have
other priorities!!!!! Why other priorities???? I do not have a clue, but it is their business, not mine. Part of it is if they really get in
trouble healthwise, all they have to do (and they know it) is come to the emergency room and they WILL be treated. Of course, this can't go on for
long, either.
Free treatment in Mexico for health???? I don't think so, but if they do, they will be bankrupt soon. NO COUNTRY can afford free health services for
long----eventually they will go bankrupt, or the citizens will from over taxation. It is crazy!!
But what do I know----this is simply an opinion.
But what does all this have to do with the price of Mexican fuel?????? I, for one, really appreciate that "Baja Cactus" publishes this very helpful
information.

We appreciate your taking the time to post the current gasoline and diesel prices.
Current prices for highway diesel here are 2.17 gal and offroad diesel 1.75 gal dyed fuel.
Here on the farm we are experimenting with making biodiesel and are now using it as 50/50 blend with purchased diesel.
The biodiesel costs us about 1.10 gal in material costs to make plus our time.
It is working great! We are using old cooking oil from Chinese restaurants!
The processor we made from a water heater.

Yep, similiar but different. We make our moonshine in a still, distilation, just like in the Ozarks. Got agave?
But that there water heater is used for transesterification.
We also make a pretty decent barrel of wine every year. Fermentation.
When I lived in Guadalupe the old Russos taught me how to make wine the low tech way. Even though their religion frowned upon alcohol, wine was
consumed for "medicinal" purposes, in the root cellar, of course.
It was fun drinking wine and eating fresh Shashlyk while listening to their tales of how it was. For example, how they harvested the wheat, loaded the
wagons, hooked up the horses and took the wheat to market in San Diego via Valle de las Palmas. And on the return trip they always wore two or three
pairs of clothes crossing the border back into Mexico so they wouldn't have to pay duty on the clothes.
Most of those old Russos are gone now. Just a couple left.

4baja... DavidK is right... it seems he really listened during our driving time...
Pemex by itselfs does not run and operates gas stations... they only find, extract, refines, produces and distributes the fuel...
Pemex depends on independent owners via franchises to run and operate gas stations...
And as all of you already may know... between El Rosario and Jesus Maria there are no electricity, water services and/or money transportation
services... wich makes very difficult the operation of a business in those areas....
Do not worry, someone will put a gas station there... eventually...

BarryA, not talking about the endless
numbers of do-nothings and want everything....Buy health insurance?, for many of our working people that is an impossible financial dream.
And yes, many of them do have other "priorities", such as eating and having a roof over their families heads.....
Free in Mexico (occasionaly) but we do have "AFFORDABLE" health insurance here. Enough said, back to fishing.
